Elizabeth Dole Named Godmother of Spirit

April 4, 2001
It strikes us as a bit of irony that Elizabeth Dole, who Carnival has named godmother of its newest “fun ship,” the Carnival Spirit, is being honored for her “tireless dedication to public service and humanitarian issues” when the official naming ceremony itself is closed to the public. The exclusive, invitation-only event takes place Friday, April 27. Mrs. Dole will then join “dignitaries” on a two-day preview cruise. No word on whether or not hubby Bob Dole will be present.
