Princess Showcases Oscars Sunday

February 25, 2005
Film buffs should put this in the if-I'm-cruising-on-Oscar-Sunday-next-year file: Princess Cruises has secured rights not only to broadcast the Academy Awards (airing live this Sunday), but also to showcase the awards ceremony on its huge "Movies Under the Stars" screens.

The only caveat? At this point, the screens are only installed on Grand Princess and Caribbean Princess. Passengers on other Princess ships can view the show in the main theaters. In 2006, cruisers can also choose Sea Princess, which will get the fabulous, poolside, drive-in-like outdoor theater when it returns to the fleet this spring.

Princess has carved out a reputation for throwing a "grand" Academy Awards party each year onboard its ships -- passengers stroll down Princess' own "red carpet" in their formal best and pose for "paparazzi" photographers. Other highlights include special cocktails, prize giveaways and even a shipboard fashion critic who pronounces winners and losers.
