I've been on the Dawn many times, and always enjoyed this ship. The 2011 refurb has made the ship very attractive. There is no game room, however (it doesn't generate spending by passengers). The food was excellent in the main dining venues and the Garden Café. The ports were all very pleasant--not too hot this time of year. My husband and I are in our seventies and my brother, who was with us, is 62. There were activities on board for people our age. There was a musical act, Jose and Patti, who performed music from the fifties, sixties, and seventies, and there was also a Glenn Miller band which was good. The entertainment was first rate--the ship's singers and dancers sound professional and the magic act and the Second City review were terrific.
The main problem with the cruise was getting off the ship. Normally, you are off in about 20 minutes. This time, we stood in line for over 90 minutes to get off and then spent another 30 minutes going thru Customs. Several people missed their flights because of the delays. We missed our bus reservation! We live in Ocean Springs, about 2 hours away. I have no idea why it took so long to debark. The staff would not answer our questions. I'd think twice before taking this ship again--the problem with debarking was really a bummer. The staff needed to explain this to us and do whatever was necessary to fix the problem, but they showed no interest. Shame on them.
Small, cramped, but with good shower, TV, electrical hookups. Quiet at night--we slept well. Fridge worked well, as did safe.
