Based on previous sailings with same size HAL ships, I was really looking forward to an above average cruise. What we got was very ordinary. The ship is nice but has very subdued colour scheme and furnishings which are relaxing, but not exactly energising. In conjunction with very traditional ways of doing things, like calling out cabin numbers on deck for muster, repetitive menus and obvious ...
This was our 9th cruise with HAL and it never ceases to amaze me the criticisms I read. Not sure what everyone's expectations are, but for us a vacation is for relaxation, learning, experiencing and meeting new people: recharging the batteries. And cruises are great value in terms of putting together food, travel, hotel, entertainment etc.
These last five or six cruises we have booked a Neptune ...
After reading some of the posted reviews for the Eurodam, I wonder if we were just unlucky, but I don't think so.
But first the good. The food was excellent, without exception. I am not a buffet person, especially after being in Vegas, but I looked forward to lunch in the buffet every day. We had some really excellent meals in the main restaurant, and they were never less than good. The basic ...
This was our 4th cruise on HAL but this time we were in a Neptune Suite.
We flew the red-eye from Vancouver to Toronto to Laguardia.
Bags were tagged straight through to LGA.
In Toronto, they have streamlined the process. Step 1:You go to this area where they scan your boarding pass, Step 2: fill in your US immigration form, Step 3: Look for your name to appear on the screen + proceed to the ...
Embarkation at Manhattan was fairly swift, although the lines were long the staff were efficient and courteous. This was the first time on Hal and we were pleasantly surprised at the spacious cabins and the amount of hanging space ( never ones to travel light).
Lunch at the Lido was standard and plentiful but there were far less staff than we were used to on other cruise lines. In Hal,s favour ...
Backgound, my wife and I have cruised a total of 21 times; 6 times with Holland America. For reference, we normally eat at the Pinnacle Grill at least twice per cruise
I will limit this review to our experience on the Eurodam; more specifically to the Pinnacle Grill and La Cirque.
We had pre-booked La Cirque on September 18th and The Pinnacle Grill on the 19th and 21st.
La Cirque - We arrived ...
In General: This was our second cruise (both with HAL). The flight in and hotel in Quebec were booked by us and not via HAL. The embarkation process couldn't have gone smoother. We were in our stateroom after maybe 10-15 minutes. The luggage was delivered promptly.
We went on to explore the ship and found the colour scheme a lot less gaudy than de Zuiderdam'. We got our selfs a Greenroom Spa ...
We had never cruised on Holland American Line before; we normally sail on Celebrity. However, since the New England/Canadian cruise dates and ports fit our schedule, we decided to give them a try. After reading another review, I had a hard time believing that we had sailed on the same ship and the same date.
We arrived for the cruise in New York City around 11:45 a.m. and probably waited a ...
Sailed out of New York, embarkation was flawless, checked in and on the ship in under one hour of arrival. We were invited to a Mariner embarkation brunch which was very nice. After the brunch we went to our aft cabin on the Rotterdam deck. I was very pleased with the aft cabin and would definitely book one again, the views were terrific.
We enjoyed some great and not so great weather, ...
The cruise was nice but not up to the standards of other Holland America cruises we have enjoyed. The ship was understaffed and service was very spotty, from very good to very bad. One of the ship's officers admitted (privately over a drink) that Holland America had reduced the staff in order to cut expenses. Translated, that means to increase profits. HA is more and more committed to ...
