We had never cruised on Holland American Line before; we normally sail on Celebrity. However, since the New England/Canadian cruise dates and ports fit our schedule, we decided to give them a try. After reading another review, I had a hard time believing that we had sailed on the same ship and the same date.
We arrived for the cruise in New York City around 11:45 a.m. and probably waited a total of 45 minutes before embarking on the Eurodam. The ship was tastefully decorated, and our cabin was mid-ship on a lower deck as we had requested, since I frequently experience seasickness and have been told this area is the most stable.
The service in the dining room was very good as was the food and presentation. Several weeks prior to the sailing, we requested a table for two. We were assigned a very nice table with attentive waiters. We dined at the Pinnacle on two occasions and the Tamarind once and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences.
Using the tender was not a problem. We never had to wait more than 15 minutes to board in either direction.
Our only real disappoint was the cancellation of the port of Saguenay. However, based on the very bad seas, we can certainly understand why the change of itinerary was necessary. The Eurodam had no problem with the very rough weather though. I must commend the Captain, since I never experienced even the slightest discomfort.
If the ports and the dates coincide with our plans, we would definitely sail with HAL again.
