My wife and I sailed on the Carnival Spirit Southbound on September 1st. This was our 4th Carnival cruise and 1st time to Alaska. We booked a balcony room which was nice for glacier viewing and whale watching. We had early seating in the dining room. Our cabin steward and all dining staff were excellent. This was our 2nd trip on the Carnival Spirit, and our third and likely last trip with Carnival. We'd had a good experience on the Spirit in Hawaii in 2004, a bad one on the Jubilee in the Caribbean during Christmas 2003/2004 and now a bad one on the Spirit. Pre tour- We had a three day tour, via rail on the McKinley Express, originating from Fairbanks stopping in Denali for a tour, via bus, and the night, then terminating in Anchorage. We were disappointed. We did not fully realize that, on average, only about 1 in 4 actually see Mt. McKinley. We were part of the other 75%. We also saw very little wildlife.
