We chose Silversea because we wanted to enjoy a luxury cruise and visit beautiful ports in Greece and Italy. We have traveled Silversea in the past and have been very pleased by the experience. However, this experience did not meet expectations.
The Ship was old and was in need of refurbishment. She is still a beauty but needs some work to make her look more fresh and inviiting.
Our cabin ...
We booked a 16 day Med voyage on Spirit , but due to extended refurbishment time, the voyage was cancelled and Silversea offered a number of alternatives. The only cruise to fit our timings was Silver Wind from Barcelona to Athens in April/May. The ship being older and somewhat smaller than the Spirit, was supposed to have been refurbished before our booked voyage, we were somewhat disappointed ...
I chose this cruise considering the size of the ship, ports of call and the reasonable single supplement.
Silversea was amazing I would highly recommend them to anyone. I loved the size of the Silver Wind. Its amenities and quality of staff.
As to the ports of call, I'm getting a little old for the crowds at most of the stops, but that is just part of the modern world. The best stop was ...
We had a wonderful experience with Seabourn a couple of years ago. We loved the service food and the itinerary. When we were looking for a cruise this fall Silverseas offered the most suitable itinerary. Having read some of the reviews on this site we were a little concerned that Silverseas would not live up to Seabourn's standards. WRONG! We LOVED the service, food and the included excursions ...
Whilst the overall experience was quite good, we noticed quite a few areas where service quality had declined from previous experiences on Silverseas.
We have sailed with this line on a number of previous occasions, but this will probably be the last, at least on this size ship.
Our cruise was a combined back to back cruise from Rome and many of the old positives were still evident. ...
I thought it might be helpful to compare the 2 as we were on the Seaborne Sojourn last summer.
Ship/cabin
Sojourn is newer ship with a contemporary understated elegance. It remained me of a Four Seasons hotel. Silver Wind is an older somewhat dated ship. It was refurbished in 2013 but I am not sure what t they did. There was no movie streaming in the room but a DVD library, kind of like ...
The good points of Silver Wind - staff and port visits. Other than this, please do not book a trip on this sad, tired ship!! Despite being one of the nicest, larger cabins (702) room is depressing. Front balcony crammed with too much furniture; when they wash the windows it becomes a wet, soggy, dank mess. Light fixture on side balcony threatens to fall on your head. Toilet didn't flush first ...
This was my third cruise on Silversea and the second on the Silver Wind and one on the Silver Spirit. I really enjoy the small ship and Silversea continues to deliver excellent and personalized service. After three cruises some of the restaurants and entertainment are getting a little redundant, but I do like the consistency. I cannot imagine being on a 100 plus day cruise as some of the ...
We had a wonderful cruise on the Silver Wind - from Venice to Rome, passing by Pula, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Messina and Sorrento. The sailing was smooth, the staff very efficient and hospitable and the food and unlimited beverages were top quality. The ship guest lecturer was very highly knowledgeable and his talks were always very interesting. The cooking demonstration and the wine tasting were ...
I knew the minute we stepped on board that this was going to be a disappointing experience. I was right. Basically, the ship was tired and worn out. This was apparent throughout. On all eleven days as we moved about the ship I found myself bewildered at how this experience could be rated 6-Star Premium.
Service was very good, but no better than any other cruise we've been on. I don't understand ...
