We chose this itinerary because it was (primarily) around Japan during the Cherry Blossom season, and we travelled with a lovely British couple we have known for years. This past summer we cruised for the sixth time with Seabourn and, despite post pandemic, Seabourn (the newer ship) was as good as it ever has been. Not so Silversea.
To be sure, the Muse is still a luxury product but a step or, if one is kind, a half step down from Seabourn. I am extroverted and tend to speak to a lot of people on a cruise, and I heard over and over from seasoned Silversea travellers, that Silversea is losing its edge.
The food at the ‘nicer’ restaurants (the ones with an upcharge) was disappointing. The other restaurants were good to so so. Our best meals were at the pizza place overlooking the pool, the italian restaurant, and the piano bar restaurant. The main dining room had incredibly slow service and uneven quality. The asian restaurant was good. The morning buffet was fine. Nothing was awful but little about the ship shined.
The cabin was fine, the standard cabin. Ours was 8**. The butler was excellent as was the person who did the cleaning. One of the issues we had was that no one explained that Silversea uses their messaging system on the television to communicate with you. On Seabourn they would have left a note on the door. So, we were days into the cruise when we accidentally discovered we had messages. Who knew?
My wife asked the guide to tell her about some of the history of this city. He told her he didn’t know. Really?
We saw some large ‘float like’ things that were fascinating..
