  3. Viking Star
This was our 25th cruise in all and probably one of the best ... the itinerary, excursions, food, drink, cabin, staff, travel arrangements were all just what they said they would be in the literature.Well Done to Viking. Arrival at Venice airport was very well handled with lots of "Viking" ladies gently moving us to the right place and supplying water and someone to chat with. Check-in was a breeze and within 10 minutes were in our cabin and our luggage was there within an hour. Then we were off and with no sea days ahead it was off to bed as early as practical. We took the included tour at every port except one where we did our own thing. They were all excellent with local guides of a high standard of knowledge and language skills and a good sense of humour. Also, one day we had 2 excursions booked but one had its time changed which we were able to cancel without quibble. The weather en-route was excellent so every day we had breakfast on deck at the back of the ship and we enjoyed about half the dinners there too. We used the main dining room for dinner just once and the other nights we were in the speciality restaurants. Most afternoons were spent around the pool with a spot of late lunch and some excellent beer served at our sun lounger. We enjoyed every aspect of the Viking Cruise experience ... so much so that we booked two future cruises whilst on board - a river cruise in 2020 and another ocean cruise in 2021. Life on board was really good. For us UK residents it seemed that some unnecessary difficulties were put in our way post cruise. Our refund for the cancelled cruise could only be paid by cheque and they then forgot to send the cheque until we asked for it. Our Future Cruise deposits were not transferrable to a UK Travel Agent having been paid on board and so we had to pay the deposit again and then get the first one refunded. Then all the little financial benefits that are given "on board" were converted from $ to £ at varying rates all of which reduced their value. However, this did not put us off Viking and we have just booked another warm weather cruise from Miami in January 2020 on the closest day we could get to my wife's 70th Birthday. Viking seems to be our new favourite cruise line. Happy Cruising
