We love the Golden Princess and have sailed on her five times but sadly on our lastest cruise we were a little disappointed. We had nine days without TV, internet and communication due to a fire. We were left frightened and staff panicked and several did not go to their designated muster station even after several calls to do so from the Captain. We were in a balcony cabin and the smell was coming into the cabin so we opened the balcony door for air, but the smell was coming into our cabin. We were told to stay in our cabin, but some people were told to wear something warm, take your medication with you and prepare to evacuate, so we were told different things. Our wonderful cabin steward Kurt told us to stay calm and he would keep us informed. After what seemed like several hours the Captain informed us the heavy thick black smoke was under control (fire was not mentioned, but we know there was fire). We were all offered a complementary glass of wine with dinner the next night (we dont drink) and later offered $150 on board credit for no tv and internet for nearly the whole cruise. There were many leakes around the ship. There was a toilet flooding on Horizon level. The ship needs a good spruse up and the cabins are in need of some spring cleaning as they are not cleaned properly for new arrivals. We found a used toothbrush in a draw from previous occuapants and blood on a bed cushion. We went Club Class as this was the only available at time of booking and found the staff we absolutely fantastic and they made our vacation bearable. We were so looking forward to this cruise but were sadly let down. We hope they can repair the ship and fix all the problems as we would still love to sail on her in the future.
The cabin was ok at first sight, but then when I wiped the surfaces with disinfectant wipes I found alot of black dirt and a used toothbrush in a draw. On the bed was a decorative cushion with blood on it the size of a 20c coin. The tiles in the bathroom dirty. I dont blame the stewards as they have a difficult job to turn the rooms around especially on disembarkation day.
