One of my highlights - La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona!
Beautiful beach and shore excursion at Palma de Mallorca

I had such a pleasant experience on the Western Mediterranean Cruise with Jewel of the Seas. The ship had amazing staff and crew, delicious and abundant food, unbelievable efficiency, great facilities, top notch service, comfortable cabins, and more. They anticipated my needs before I knew them which was very impressive. The ship itself looked new because it was spotless! You couldn't tell it was moving because of how smooth it was going. There were enough activities and space for 2,000 passengers. I can't emphasize enough how wonderful the service was and how efficient the processes were, from gathering us guests to our meeting places for emergency drills to our shore excursions - it was fantastic! Also, the staff and crew were very friendly and worked very hard. The ports of call were great! They had a combination of big and small towns, some more well-known than others. I will definitely go on a cruise with Royal Carribean again.

Cabin Review

Interior

Cabin 3V

Our room was perfect! I shared an interior cabin with 3 other people. They brought down 2 beds from the ceiling and we had 2 more beds below plus a couch (it wasn't a pull-out bed). I thought that the space would be too small for us, but there was a lot of storage space and drawers that we, and our 4 luggages, fit! The washroom was comfortably small too. What I love about an interior cabin is it's pitch dark with your shut the lights - perfect for sleeping!

Port Reviews

Corsica (Ajaccio)

At first, you would think that there isn't much to do in the small town that was Ajaccio. It's true that you could finish walking through the souvenir shops in an hour or two, but the best part of this town is actually the beach! After a few hours walking around in the city, my family headed to the Saint Francois beach and absolutely loved it! We took our time there. Don't forget to bring flip flops and a swimsuit if you want to swim! What I loved about Ajaccio is that the ship was very easy to get to - the easiest among all ports! It was right by the city and we didn't have to take an extra bus, taxi, or boat.

Cannes

I thought Cannes was the second best port, after Barcelona. There was quite a lot to do in this city! My family went to the top of the hill where Musee de la Castre was. The sight of the water and the port of Cannes was beautiful! Then we strolled by the market where they sold antique items and food. We bought delicious dip and baguettes which we would later have for lunch. After lunch, we made our way to La Croisette beach. Absolute beauty! It's a long stretch so we had the chance to walk along La Croisette where they had high end stores. Lastly, we walked through a long stretch of souvenir shops. Getting back to the ship entailed getting on a smaller boat from the port of Cannes to the ship which was parked far away from the shore. After a long, long day of walking and sweating, a good surprise was being greeted by Royal Caribbean crew with cold, wet towels and ice-cold water. What a treat!

Sardinia

Sardinia was my least favourite port. It was too hot (33 C) to walk around and do anything so my family took a public bus that took us around the city for 20 minutes. We went around twice and we decided to hit the mall (Rinascente), buy some souvenirs, and eat at a restaurant. Then we just went back to the ship. There wasn't much to see, or at least by this time, we were already very tired after a packed 6 days and we felt like we've seen enough churches, beaches, and statues.

Barcelona

Barcelona was definitely my highlight! We had 10 hours in this port, which actually wasn't enough time to visit all the wonderful sites especially with the traffic and crowds. My family pre-booked tickets to La Sagrada Familia. If you want to tour the inside (which I highly recommend you do), you need to pre-book as tickets get sold out if you buy on the day of. Make sure you don't wear short shorts or "revealing" tops - they can be strict about who they allow to enter. I almost got stopped from entering as I was in spaghetti straps, but thankfully, there was a vendor at the entrance from whom I bought a scarf to cover my shoulders and chest. The inside of La Sagrada Familia is beautiful, just as it is from the outside. After taking a hundred photos, we left, hoping to visit the souvenir shop but we weren't sure where to go so we just walked out.

We then went to Park Guell which was packed. The sites and sights in the park were beautiful but less jaw-dropping than La Sagrada Familia. The number of people at the park that day (Wednesday) made it slightly less enjoyable. Other than that, it was worth visiting!

Lastly, we went to La Rambla and ate at a very delicious restaurant just at the intersection called Nuria. Best food and so glad we got to eat at a genuine Spanish restaurant. We highly recommend this!

The only thing about this port is that it's not exactly close to the ship. We were told by a few people (some locals) that it was close enough to walk from La Rambla to the ship, but be warned! It's a long walk so plan accordingly and make sure you know the terminal number. With 40 minutes left before the ship leaves, my family was forced to take a cab. Thankfully, my dad remembered the terminal number as the rest of us didn't even pay attention! We got back safely and on time, though we panicked a bit before that.
