First time on a Viking Ocean cruise (not been on their River cruises either...yet), 17th cruise overall. In my opinion, Viking is several notches better than the larger cruise lines we've been on...Norwegian, Princess & Carnival. Nothing against any of those guys as I've enjoyed almost every cruise thus far, but the other lines make it feel like they have their hands in your wallet from the second you step on the boat. Viking serves a different clientele and charges you a little more up front in exchange for simply trying to help you enjoy your cruise. I loved it and am eagerly looking forward to trying out the River cruises next.
Fantastic service, extremely well appointed cabins, free (or inexpensive) shore excursions and more free wine and soft drinks than I could drink. Embarkation was quick and easy and the disembarkation was so fast that we ended up having to wait for our private transportation to arrive because we budgeted way too much time to exit the boat. Fastest disembarkation we've ever had. We walked right off the boat with no wait whatsoever. Unbelievable.
I just don't want to say a whole lot more because the higher the demand for Viking, the more they're going to want to charge. If you try Viking; you'll probably love them. Just don't. Please.
We were upgraded a couple of days before sailing from a Penthouse Veranda to an ES2-Explorer Suite. The weather was cold and this cabin is on a back corner of the ship exposed to elements on two sides. Some of the cold made it into the cabin, but other than that one minor complaint, this cabin was freaking awesome in every way!
We'd been to Florence and Pisa earlier in the year. For this cruise, we took a cab to the train station and bought train tickets to Florence and went to a museum we missed the first time around as well as the Christmas Market. Loved it! Florence is usually packed and even this time of year had quite a few people, but definitely less when we visited in April.
