We chose this cruise mainly because of the itinerary and were extremely happy with it. From Rome (Civitavecchia) to Livorno, Cannes, Marseilles, Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Cagliari, Malta, Messina, Naples, and back to Rome. In each port we had a good amount of time to take a tour or visit on our own, shop a bit, have lunch, and often there were shuttles or you docked right near the town. The ship is very well maintained and clean, the staff was courteous and tried very hard to accommodate us. Our balcony cabin, 10006 forward, was very well located and quite, but a little smaller than other balcony cabins since it did not have a desk but did have a bigger entrance area. Our room stewart, Antonio, was excellent. The main dining rooms staff were very polite, attentive, and tried hard, especially Emilia. The food was ample with many choices, and the quality was very good. We ate at the Bistro - very good food and service, Cagney's - very good food and nice service but was quite cold where we were seating and they changed our table, La Trattoria - good food but very disappointing location right next to the Buffet area therefore very noisy and not very intimate, not too many people there. The shows were very professional and varied, except for the concert with the violin player. We took a number of shore excursions all very good with one exception, in Marseille. Some of the staff at the shore excursion desk were a little misinformed about the shuttle services. Norwegian or the ports do provide shuttle services, for free or for a fee (up to 15 euros). We had also booked when Norwegian had a Canada at par special and we got a very good price.

Fantastic itinerary and great price

  • Barcelona
We had already spent time in Barcelona so we took the shuttle (5 euros/pp) from the port to the Mirador de Colom. From there we visited the Maritime Museum (excellent, worth visiting), walked around the Ramblas, then went to visit the Maremagnum Shopping Center and had lunch.

  • Monaco & Monte Carlo
Once again we had a very good tour guide and bus driver. In the end we took the more scenic drive from Cannes to Monaco. Got to visit Monte Carlo, Cathedrale de Monaco where Princess Grace and Prince Rainer are buried, Oceanographic Museum on the outside, and the changing of the guard (even saw Prince Albert in his limo entering the Palace gates). During our free time we were able to visit the Palace, have a coffee and cake at the Chocolaterie de Monaco (chocolatier to the Royal House), do some shopping, visit the gardens overlooking the sea. Afterwards we went to Monaco to visit the Casino on the outside (17 euros to get in and can only see 3 rooms), Opera de Monaco on the outside, Hotel de Paris, and all the crowds ogling the fancy cars parked in the square. Did not enjoy this part of the city. Also saw the circuit of the Formula 1 race, the Jardins Japonais, and some more time to walk around a bit. We managed to see quite a bit, it is a full day tour.

  • Florence (Livorno)
The guides were excellent. We had one guide with us at all times, but in Lucca and Pisa we had local guides. Lucca is beautiful, medieval, and relaxing, with gorgeous shops and delicious restaurants. We had enough free time to visit the Puccini house, shop a bit, and have a fantastic but expensive lunch at La Buca di Sant’Antonio Ristorante. Pisa is not such a lovely city except for the Field of Miracles. Impressive architecture but a zoo with all the people, and it was not yet the busy season. Our guide did take us to a part of the old city where the university is located which was much quieter and very interesting.

  • Marseille
We were looking forward to this tour thinking it would take us on a good overview of the city and was very disappointed. We got to see Longchamps Park for 5 minutes. We did drive around but most of the time it was because the driver was looking for somewhere to stop. We saw part of the old port, Notre Dame de la Garde which is magnificent and the view is breathtaking, and not a lot more. Thankfully we had the afternoon free, so on our own we visited Fort St Jean, le MUCEM, the J4, Cathedrale la Major, Centre de la Vielle Charite and had lunch at Au Bout du Quai (very good).
The port provides a shuttle (not free), which takes you to the MUCEM and back.
