We like to cruise in the winter, to get away from the dark, rainy days in England, and we didn't want to do a long-haul flight, so it was appealing to sail from Southampton to the Canaries. This was our first cruise on P&O, although we have been on several other lines.
Embarkation was really smooth. We arrived a little earlier that our allotted time, but were waved straight through to check-in, which was most efficiently organised. We got to our cabin about 45 minutes after arrival in Southampton, and our cases were already outside.
The cabin was fine, with lots of storage space. The bed was comfortable but the pillows a bit too firm for our liking. We were on C deck, which has extra-deep balconies, part shaded, with two loungers, one footstool and a small table. A pity that during the whole two weeks it was only warm enough to sit out there once! The bathroom is tiny, but the shower is really good and powerful, and the bath towels large and quite thick.
Clean, pleasant, lots of storage. No complaints
Madeira is lovely. We had two days here, and went up to Monte on the first day and on the Hop on Hop off bus the second day. There was a carnival on.
Another carnival, with the people all dressed in white - some lovely costumes- but it was impossible to get a taxi so we didn't have an opportunity to see much of the island
Went to Timanfaya National Park. The scenery is very impressive, volcanic rock and well worth seeing.
Very pretty old town. We walked around, saw the food market and the cathedral. It was raining heavily so we went back to the ship
We took a short "tuk-tuk" tour through the old town, we had been here before. The interior of the island had some pretty villages.
