Sail Date: Jan 2017
Cabin: Superior Verandah Suite

This was our 3rd Holland American cruise, the second on this ship. We upgraded to a Signature Suite (room 6063), and loved it. We'd had a Neptune Suite once before, and felt this was more than enough room for two. A big plus was the location on the ship. I hardly got lost, as it was very central.

Embarkation was a breeze. We were group "A" to go on, and our room was ready. Our luggage was already in our room.

No complaints with any of the ports. Out of 6 ports, we had only not been to 2 of them, so we were fine going off on our own and doing our own thing.

Cabin Review

Superior Verandah Suite

Cabin SS

Excellent. Comfortable beds, lots of room, lots of storage space. Love the extra room on the balcony, and two sinks in the bathroom. Only problem was the first night the air conditioning was on high and they couldn't fix till next morning. I called and was told it wasn't just our room, but a section of rooms. They brought us blankets and everything was fine by the time we returned the next day from our first island visit. No problems with heat or cold the rest of the trip.

Port Reviews

Half Moon Cay

Our third visit to this island. Lovely beach day. It was a little cool that day and very windy, but the sun came out and we enjoyed the time we spent there. Lunch on the island was good.

Grand Turk

Loungers and umbrellas are provided here, but I missed the sign that said this, and ended up paying $20. My stupidity I guess, but I don't think the locals should be allowed to stand at the entrance where tourists come in, and lead them to chairs. Very deceiving. I made sure others were aware of this, once I discovered I had been taken advantage of.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

Our first visit here, and it is done up very nicely for tourists. We walked around, sat by the pool and enjoyed our time here.

Curacao

Our first visit to this island, and my husband arranged to scuba dive in the morning, then came back to the ship for me. He arranged himself because Holland America doesn't do for those over a certain age. He's 72, but an experienced diver. We didn't have time to find a beach, but we did walk around and found a lovely restaurant overlooking the water right on the main street. $11 for your choice of about 6 main courses, and it came with dessert and a beverage.

Aruba

We've been to Aruba at least 10-11 times, so we know it well. We walked off the ship, two blocks away we hopped on the bus ($5.25 for 2 people), and in less than 15 minutes we were at Palm Beach. We changed in a hotel, and for $25 we had two loungers and an umbrella in front of the Hyatt Hotel. The lady in charge of renting the loungers said that we were free to use the restaurants and the washrooms of the Hyatt, and they would also serve us on the beach. Perfect, perfect Aruba beach day.

We took the bus back to town, and after changing on the ship, we walked around the downtown. As it was a Sunday, most stores were closed.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Very easy and well run cruise port.
