We enjoyed Viking's France' Finest offering a year ago and looked forward to doing another or trying their new ocean cruise options. Soon after we returned from France we received an email promotion of The West Indies Explorer offering and determined that one of the sailings would include New Year's Eve at sea. The combination was too much to resist.
As mentioned in many of the accompanying reviews, the Viking Star is an amazing ship. We loved the Viking Longship experienced on our France cruises and knew we would feel right at home on the Viking Star as it had the same feel as the Longships. There is an amazing attention to detail apparent throughout the ship that exudes quality, craftsmanship and very good taste. One never tires of enjoying the common areas. Accomplished artists playing the piano, guitar or the classical trio certainly makes one want to linger and enjoy. How nice it would be if we could enjoy a drink in the Explorer's Lounge everyday at sunset. We didn't miss that opportunity very many days and look forward to enjoying that luxury again.
Apart from New Year's Eve where the events centered in the large 3 deck Atrium, we never felt crowded aboard the Viking Star. No lines to speak up except maybe short ones going through the security line but certainly minimal inconvenience.
Could not have been better. I think it is an incredible value relative to the next lower and higher offerings.
