Wonderful food, service, fun and itinerary; trumps an obvious dry-dock need!!

I try to write a review on as many cruises as we go on and give a fair shake to inform future cruisers. This was my 27th cruise (age 51) and I traveled with wife (age younger), two sons 20, 17 and my dear mom age 70 ish lol. Let me give you the only negatives early because the cruise was awesome. My mom took a train last minute from NJ and joined us by booking probably the last cabin on board; inside cabin. Well her cabin was soaked with a plumbing problem so they gave her a floor seven aft inside cabin which was okay but prone to motion. Our family of 4 stayed in a midship balcony cabin on floor six without problems. Conquest needs some paint and repair, Our balcony was rusted and some of the smells on the ship were suspect. Also, I think that Carnival filled the ship last minute with locals from Miami and area. Not complaining but usually I like crowd diversity but it seemed like there was not as much. Can the muster drill be in common rooms like other cruises? Hot, sweaty and claustrophobic is best way to describe it.

Lets Go and get to the good stuff:

Dining: Some of the best main dining room food and service we have had. Table 403 Artemio and Sennett were fabulous and we thankfully were put on this table to fit 5 with my mom on night one. Fortunately they kept us there and they were entertaining, professional and kept feeding our massive appetites. Well I speak primarily about myself. The most tender lobster, veal parm, braised short ribs, were fantastic and the appetizer choices and desserts were great. Food was hot and plentiful. We cruised Norwegian in June and this menu on Conquest was miles ahead. don't forget chocolate melting cake. Buffet was good, deli, pizza, ice cream okay. Guy's burgers were mostly excellent but somedays you get overcooked ones. Eat, drink and be merry.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8C

Nice cabin, plenty of storage. A/C worked well and bed was comfy. Please paint the metal areas on balcony. It is a rusted eye-sore.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Just parked the car which was right there and reasonable and not a bad wait to embark. Disembarkation is tricky now because most everyone uses the self assist and it gets hectic.

Grand Turk

Beautiful beach, walk down further from Margaritaville and you will be pleasantly surprised.

San Juan

Okay port for shopping and a bite to eat, toured the fort and walked the streets

St. Thomas

Coki beach was excellent, get there early because when other cruises arrived or an excursion let out, it got crowded. Beautiful water and helpful staff.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

As I mentioned in review, we loved the itinerary. Great beaches, an awesome swimming pool and some fantastic shopping. Amber Cove was the only port I had not been to and we loved it. Pool and island very clean, swim up bar and plenty for family to do...
