I have sailed 8 times with the Oceania Line because of the itineraries. The service and the food in my opinion has always been superb. The wine and their excursions were overpriced, so we'd take a taxi along with another couple and see the sights for far less, plus buy wine to take back to our room. My husband and I were looking forward to a wonderful experience for our first time on the very beautiful Riviera. The first night on the ship we had dinner in the Polo Grille where we joined another couple. The food was fine but the other guests were rude to us, making uncalled for comments. I felt that if they didn't want us sitting with them they should have asked to be moved. The second night in the main dinning room, there was another guest who made some remarks to me but he did not appreciate my reply. I'm 100% sure that he complained to a manager and asked to never be seated with us again and the manager complied by notifying all of the staff not to seat us with any of the other guests.

When we showed up for dinner at the Red Ginger we were greeted by the hostess who said that the folks who we were supposed to dine with had canceled so we were seated over on the other side of the room by ourselves. The food was very good so we didn't mind. The next time we were discriminated against was dinner at Toscana. My husband was seated ahead of me at a table for six. He had been served water and he had a glass of wine. When I arrived, I headed over to where he was, but was stopped as he was told that he couldn't sit at that table, he was almost yanked up and we were directed to a table for two.

It was so obvious and hurtful that the staff would treat us differently because my husband is white but I am not. I explained to management once we'd returned home that I really do not care what the other guests think or how they treat me but I do care how Oceania treats me. It was not a nice experience at all and the reply I got back was how sorry they were and $400 off our next cruise. We will never sail on Riviera again and urge other mixed couples not to bother. We were never treated differently on any of the mid-sized ships.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View

The cabin was fine, bed very comfortable and enough closet and drawer space.

Port Reviews

St. Barts

Beautiful, very expensive to rent chairs and umbrellas. We were charged $60 for less than 2 hrs.
