My wife and I had gone to Sydney for a family reunion and decided to return to NZ by ship. we both had no great expectations. All we wanted was to relax and take everything in. we were looking forward to seeing the fiords, was not disappointed. As for the ship, well it was more than I expected. Thought it was very well maintained, being an ex seaman I tended to look at all the little things the deckies were doing and the overall state of the ship. Could not fault it for a ship that spends more time at sea than tied up alongside.
Our inside stateroom was on Caribe deck 245 it more than met our needs, heaps of space. Shower cracked us up, a bit small to say the least ha ha gave us a few laughs. The bed was good we slept very soundly no noise. would recommend Caribe deck not much ship movement. Keep away from the bow or stern if you suffer from mal de mere. Our steward was very good .
We had anytime dining but didn't use the restaurants, not being foodies, we found the horizon court buffet more than met our culinary needs. In fact we thoroughly enjoyed it. Big ship but plenty of space to find a quiet place to relax. The vessel is a floating hotel with all usual things to try and entice you to spend your hard earned cash. Entertainment was ok but everyone has different tastes.
Easy to get to the city from port loved walking around river
tairei gorge train trip worth taking
very quaint old town not too much to do and see probably worth taking a trip into Christchurch
well worth a walk up the top of the mount but quite a steep climb
Very relaxing place. Take the open deck bus tour,
