Just back from 14 nights cruise to Lerwick, Faroes Islands (best part) all the way round Iceland then to 3 ports in Norway (why always Bergen?).

Rough seas for the better part of the cruise and this is the height of summer. The heavy sky and bad weather was very dramatic in the Faroes. But the rest of the cruise very same. how many times can you see Bergen in a life time?

Being a wheelchair user 24/7 I can not recommend HAL ... there wheelchair cabins ..we had 390 on deck 6 is a joke. no gap between end of bed and fixtures, so if you want to use the toilet you have no hope. OK after 6 days Hal changed the bed around but only after writing to the hotel director and having a meeting with him. boy talk about slow.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin EE

Firstly it was not large as cabins go, certainly not a wheelchair accessible cabin. this cabin is Port side on deck 6 lower veranda deck, one window you cannot see out of as it is behind the bed and also it is in the part of the ship that has blocked in hand rails. The windows are silvered, but you can see in if you put your face close. Carpets are tired, but then they have sold it and who is worried about the carpets when P & O will change them when they take the ship over in October / November 2015. why am I doing a review on a cruise ship no one is going to book in the future? just to let off steam at how poor the accommodation was for the money. Wardrobe doors hanging off and took have a day and two men to get them in working order. Toilets blocked and had to have plumber in a couple times, The Israeli group had toilet water just pumping out of joints in the pipes. Not good what ever way you look at it. tired cabins, chipped wood, screws with heads showing holding cabinets together. disappointing.

Port Reviews

Reykjavik

hired own wheelchair taxi. rip off prices for two hour tour. Normal bus in to town is £8.50 each way.. but if you are in a wheelchair, tourist office on pier will pay extra charge both ways and get the taxi.. but be warned they rip you off if you take them for longer.

Akureyri

these ports are much the same as each other. lots of grey cliffs

Alesund

OK place, you can get about in a wheelkchairs, but the drop curbs are big and a lot of hilly roads. Pretty place.

Harwich

How can you rate Harwich, Parkstone Quay is a jumping off point for the Hook van Holland ferry. It is mainly a cargo port. has an old Martello tower.. good fish & chip shops.. but to far from cruise terminal. Been in and out of here a few times. It works. but not exciting. Watch out for the taxi's £200 to London.. mind you the train is £40 one way.It is local for me, 2 .5 ours aways.. has plenty of expensive parking at the port. Expensive coffee, few toilets and disappointing.
