Sail Date: May 2008

My friend and I just returned from a 4 day trip to the Bahamas and Key West aboard the Majesty of the Seas. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip. We had a great cruise director, Abe, and we really liked watching the activities that they had available on the ship. I'll give a brief rundown of my opinion of the different parts of the cruise. Embarkation: Very quick and painless. I've sailed with Carnival before and this process took FOREVER. But not with RC. I arrived around 1:00 to the Miami port and I was on the ship by 1:30 pm. It is pretty well organized. Make sure that when you are getting in line to show check in that you get in the correct line for your room. For example, our room was 5015 so I had to get in the line for decks 5-7. They have separate lines for different decks. Also, try to check in online before you leave as that expedites the process and all you have to show is your passport and set sail pass. They will issue you your sea pass card at that time. Room: We had an inside room on the 5th deck. The room was very clean but of course small. We had two twin beds and a tiny bathroom, small writing desk and closet, and flat screen tv. For two people it was fine. The beds were comfortable. Very limited tv channels but who cares? My only complaint was the shower curtain. It was thin as paper and always stuck to me when taking a shower which I hated. It was also kind of dirty. Our cabin attendant was efficient and friendly. They seem to be a little stingy with the towels but we requested more twice and they were promptly brought to our cabin. Bars: They don't make the drinks as strong as I like but everything I drank was good. They have a drink special each day of the cruise. Blue Monday, Bahama Mama, etc. I recommend the Miami Vice. Bartenders were friendly overall and there are always plenty of waiters walking around to take your drink order. Drinks were anywhere from $4-8. Beer was the cheapest. Pools: There were two pools that were identical on deck 11, but no waterslide. Watch out when entering the pool about 2 feet in there is a shallow drop off and I banged my shin the first day because I didn't see it. Plenty of lounge chairs. They are saltwater pools. I usually just got in to cool off while laying out. There are also two hot tubs but they were always full so I didn't have a chance to use those. Entertainment: This was the best part of the cruise. The director and entertainment staff were great! We watched a lot of the activities but didn't participate in any. It is amazing what people will do for a keychain or hat. Some of the activities we watched were: The adult quest (very funny), ice carving, belly flop contest, sexy legs contest, 80's night, bingo, and trivia. To me the bingo is a ripoff at $15 a card. I don't recommend. Casino: I only went there once. I put $20 in a .10 slot and cashed out with $20.75. Not a high roller here. But at least I didn't lose. Very smoky and it is not very big. But sufficient for the size of the ship I suppose. Dining: We ate in the dining room each night and we had wonderful waitstaff. They were very friendly and always available if we needed more water, rolls, etc. The food was very good! I was pleasantly surprised as I did not like the food on my last Carnival cruise. You get a starter, entrEe, and dessert. Sorrento's pizza was fine. Not bad, but not fantastic. It hit the spot for a late night snack though. The Windjammer buffet was pretty good. The only thing I tasted at breakfast that was not good were the eggs. Plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, yogurt, bacon, sausage, waffles, etc. We ate here every morning. We ate here one day for lunch and it was good as well. They change what is on the buffet each day so you won't eat the same things every single day. We did not have a chance to use room service. Ports: We stopped in Nassau on our first full day. I had been here only last year on my trip to the Atlantis and my friend was not impressed so we only stayed about an hour, got some rum cakes, and went back to the ship to lay by the pool. Coco Cay was our next stop and this was my favorite day. I loved just laying in the sun on the beach. It was beautiful and the water is very calm and shallow. Perfect for kids. We got floats and floated in the water for a long time. Very relaxing. Watch out for the seagulls, they make a pest of themselves around lunchtime. The buffet was fine on this day a little more limited than what you would get on the ship. Key West was our final full day and we had fun shopping along Duval Street. We found the Key West winery where we each got a bottle of wine. Also visited Earnest Hemingway's house, which was more interesting than I thought. Had a drink and listened to live music at the Hog's Breath. Disembarkation: We let them take our bags for us so we set them out around 8:00 the night before leaving. We had to pick up our wine in the Bolero's lounge before leaving as they will not let you return to your room with it. Since we had come into Key West the day before we had already had to show our passports. We ate breakfast and killed some time aboard, until the final debarkation was called. After leaving the ship we retrieved our luggage and headed to our transfer stations. My friend was leaving from Miami and I was leaving from Ft. Lauderdale. Both bus trips to and from the port were fine, I recommend doing this unless you know a lot about the area, or are prepared to rely on the taxis. The ship is in good condition and they keep it well maintained. Make sure to take advantage of the activities on board even if you don't want to participate it is great fun to watch. I will definitely sail again with RC and I can't wait until my next cruise!
