We chose Viking because we had heard very good things about the ships, the staff, and cuisine. However, we chose an older model of ship (vs. the newer longship) because we had heard that the interior had a warmer, friendlier look/feel. We were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly by the front desk staff upon check-in. We took advantage of the optional wine package, although wine and beer were included in the cruise when having lunch and dinner, we decided after reviewing the wine list to pay the extra money and go with the package. We were very pleased with the quality of the wine on the package and the attentiveness of staff. Meals on Viking are quite extensive so bring your appetite. Buffet breakfast or option to order from a menu, sit-down lunch and dinner in the dining room or alternatively on the back deck al fresco. All meals were exceptionally good and detail to presentation was evident. Every evening prior to dinner, we were briefed by the Program Director (Anthony) regarding the next day adventures. It is clear that communication between staff and passengers is a priority on Viking. Daily communiques were available at the front desk and all questions were answered promptly. The daily excursions (included in the Viking price) and optional tours for a reasonable fee were led by knowledgeable local tour guides. We would highly recommend the optional wine tour in the Wassau Valley of Austria and we heard from other passengers that the Schoenberg Castle tour was very good. The disembarkation was well organized and not at all rushed. We were welcome to stay on board and enjoy lunch until it was time to go to the airport. Although we did have to vacate the room by a specified time, the relaxed approach to leaving is a compliment to Viking's organizational abilities. Would we take another Viking cruise? Absolutely yes!

Cabin Review

Cabin Upper Deck

Our stateroom was ready upon check-in so we were able to access it early, however our luggage arrived a few hours later from the hotel but in time to change for the welcome cocktail. Our stateroom was quite large for a ship and included all the bathroom amenities (refilled every day), bottled water, chocolates and a welcome bottle of sparkling wine. The location of our stateroom was chosen when booking the cruise. We prefer a quiet room away from common areas such as reception, stairways, and restaurants. We were very pleased with our stateroom. The bed was comfortable with extra blankets and pillows, if needed. Sara, our stateroom maid, checked the room at least twice daily while we were out. Fantastic and efficient service every day!
