Eurodam is Incredible...

Sail Date: October 2010
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Overview:

Yes...Holland America is geared to the older crowd, but on our Oct 23rd 2010 cruise, there were SOME young people including our 26 year old daughter Brittany. At first she was concerned about the ship's demographic make-up, but one person changed the dynamic...Mr. Jason Venner, the best cruise director ever. The pool games were great!

Boarding:

Due to the Eurodam being late...they helped rescue a couple of men at sea, the ship arrived late. This pushed back boarding and even worse, the ac was broken at the the terminal. Not good..especially for the elderly! Hey...how about some cups of water HAL?

Once onboard:

Yup...up to the Lido deck. The food was great, but the layout of the Lido is bad. HAL...check out the Solstice...that's the way a Lido deck should be laid out! Better flow and lots of "elbow room".

Cabin:

1024 on the Main deck. Incredible 200 square foot cabin. Lots of room. Great cabin steward! More

Service:

HAL kicks Celebrity on this. Incredible service all the way around. Friendly smiles, people remember your name..etc.

Food:

Again....incredible. You MUST go the Tamarind. Book early. Quite frankly, it's better than the Pinnacle Grill. Main Dining was great....Colin the Matre'D was great. Friendly and helpful. You MUST attend the final dining show!

Entertainment:

A 10. Joel the singer was off the chain. Incredible guy. Magician was great. Dancers incredible. Don't miss a single show.

The ship:

Incredible!

Mariner's Cocktail Party:

Very sad. Again, Celebrity kicks it...HARD! The Solstice had free drinks, lots of food and lots of waiters serving. HAL dropped the ball on the Mariner's Cocktail party! Several of my friends with over 500 days on HAL were VERY upset!

Front Desk:

Very friendly and helpful people. A 10.

Cruise Director:

Words can't describe how funny, friendly and professional Jason Venner is. Give this guy a raise! Multi-talented...great host of shows! Jason, you made the cruise.

Half Moon Cay

C'mon HAL...how many years will it take for you to make the BBQ lunch better. Food wasn't good, very slow and long lines, etc. Next time we won't even get off the ship.

Smoking:

Okay. Celebrity has HAL beat...for now. No smoking in the casino or rooms on Solstice, but HAL has a survey form asking about smoking on HAL ships. Will you come back if no-smoking policy is in place. If you are non-smoker as my family is, this would be great. I understand there are still smokers out there, but I applaud and will sail Celebrity more frequently due to their non-smoking policy.

Disembarkation:

Best ever. Very fast all the way through. A 10.

Conclusion:

Overall, we had a great time on the Eurodam. Incredible ship, crew, Captain and most importantly, Jason and DJ Matt. I strongly urge you to go if...you are an older couple...it's not the Oasis! No rocking climbing wall or wave rider...but if you want a great ship with great food and incredible people...go on the Eurordam.
