Flying to San Juan was not bad at all. Got to the airport around 3:30pm, picked up our bags and got a taxi in record time. Taxi is $19 plus $1/bag. Quick taxi ride to the port. No lines at all. We got through security and got our sign and sail cards in record time as well. The trip started off great. Got on the ship and went straight to our room to drop our carry-on bags off and change into our shorts and get a bit more comfortable. The balcony was great, like every other balcony we've had on the carnival line except no mini-fridge. The ship has the same layout as most Carnival ships, so getting around was easy for us. For the ship being a bit older I thought it looked great. You can see the wear and tear, but it is still very clean and comfortable! First night we did our usual, hung out at the back bar, tried to get a bit of sun before it went down, had dinner at the dining room and went to the Casino. Lost some money, but it's always fun to play Roulette! We had been pretty nervous about the cruise after reading some of the reviews, but we had no problems whatsoever. Everyone on the cruise seemed very polite and happy to be there. There will always be a few rowdy families and kids, but you just shake that off. It was no worse than any other cruise we went on. It was just great! Met some fun people and had some great times with them! Dinners were great every night, almost always hot. I think maybe once our meal was a bit less than warm, but that is to be expected when there are so many people eating at once! Our waiters were wonderful. Whatever we needed they made sure we got it. They also sang us the Happy Honeymoon song! :) The buffet was OK. For breakfast it's the usual stuff. We only ate lunch there once and never had dinner there. The dessert choices were great, but the actual lunch was not my favorite. But it's buffet style, it's what you would expect. 24 Hour Pizza was good. Was a bit disappointed with the stir-fry and sandwiches... You used to be able to order things they way you wanted them, now it seems they make it as is or not at all. None of the menu items interested me, so I never had any stir-fry items. We went to one show and that was only because we met someone that was singing that night. He was Garth Brooks...Awesome job Brian! It was a great show, all people from the cruise who sang as a certain celebrity. A lot of fun. Frank Sinatra was amazing! We do like to gamble a bit, not too much, but you will find us at the Roulette table a few times (if not every night) during the cruise. The slots can get a bit addictive as well! The casino was like most. I did really enjoy the non-smoking Roulette table. Usually it seems like I"m stuck next to the guy smoking a cigar or the chain smoker, but it was great having the smokers at a different table! A+ for that. Only spent one afternoon on the Lido Deck in the sun (St. Kitts was small, got done there early and found some beach chairs next to the pool). Rode the slide and got some sun with a couple Miami Vice's! Yum. Didn't go to the spa or the gym this trip. spent a lot of time on our balcony. The views were amazing! The sunsets were particularly fantastic. I can't think of anything else about the ship... Getting off the ship was the usual, wait for your number then pick up your bag. then have your claims form ready as you leave. It went smoothly. We were nervous because we had read so many negatives, but it went very well. No problems. got a taxi back to the airport, same price, shared with another couple and saved a few bucks. The airport was definitely crowded, but it didn't seem that bad as people say. As long as you get there with plenty of time I think you'll be ok. Even if you don't it seems like they push the people that need to get through first. There were definitely people getting annoyed at the lines, but I didn't see any need for it. maybe I was just so relaxed it didn't bother me. We flew JetBlue and waited maybe a half hour to get our bags checked, and had no line to get through security. I thought it went very smoothly. As long as you don't expect to fly through the check-in line you will be fine. That's it for the ship review. I will write about the ports as well.
