We sailed on the Silversea Wind round trip from London to the Baltic Region. The sail out and sail in was a real treat as they only do this a number of times a year from London. We are not new to cruising and have done both large and small ships. This was our first time on Silversea and the Wind hosts about 300 passengers so it is on the smaller side of small ships. I had read several reviews prior to the trip and found mixed results so I was not sure what to expect. While some of the claims were accurate (i.e torn carpet that was actually the outdoor carpet on the walking deck, not any interior carpet) it was not as bad as the reviewers made it sound. The fact is, it is an older ship (it will be getting a re-fit soon). Another comment was about the entertainment which I found to be quite nice. The thing that has to be remembered, is this is a small ship and therefore, you cannot expect a Broadway ensemble of singers and large orchestra. It just does not make sense on a lot of levels. And contrary to another review, they did play current songs.

As for the ship itself, it is well laid out and easy to navigate around. You are never too far from anything. They have a variety of dining venues and the main dining room has open seating so you can come and go as you please and never feel rushed to finish your meal as there is no one waiting for your table. This is a big advantage with small ships whereas on the large ones, you either have an early or late seating and it is more production to get you in and out unless you are in a suite category and have a dedicated dining room. The food and service were terrific and all the servers great you by name. How they remember is beyond me. In fact, I ordered two meals that were not on the menu and they were most happy to prepare them for my wife and I. The one complaint we did have is that several of the passengers did not abide by the dress code for the formal evenings and Silversea did not enforce this and allowed under-dressed folks in the dining room on a formal night (Tux). While I appreciate not everyone enjoys dressing for dinner, we do and want to be surrounded by other people that do as well. Therefore, I would have hoped that those people would have been directed away from the dining room to one of the other food venues that did not require that level of dress.

Our cabin was a nice size with ample closet space and the butler and room attendant were very polite and efficient in the daily servicing of the room.
