Not sure why this ship has so many negative reviews, you're on vacation don't sweat the small stuff, relax and enjoy people.
Embarkation - Disembarkation: We live in Florida so we drove to the Port of Miami. From the time we dropped off our luggage at the curb it took less than 30 minutes to park, walk to the terminal, clear security, check in and board. Nice and easy, I was concerned at first that MSC doesn't take credit card information at check in and we would have to wait on a long line to provide it, but this was unfounded. There are many self service kiosks near the reception area and we were able to provide the necessary info with barely any wait at all. Disembarkation was smooth - 30 minutes after we checked out we were in our car cruising north on 95.
The Ship: The Divina itself is positively gorgeous, very clean and well maintained. It's quite a large ship and easy to get lost in but after a day or so we discovered many short cuts (the back stairs, exterior of deck 7) and were able to get around without any problem. There are numerous outdoor decks with many pools and spas. We are early risers and we never had a problem getting a prime spot on deck during sea days. Our favorite spot was in the aft of the ship near the infinity pool. We spent a lot of time sitting at the tables by the garden bar enjoying drinks, reading, playing cards etc. A very relaxing place to be.
Cabin was clean with a size comparable to what we have seen on other big lines. Like the way the shower doors fold in when not in use to give more elbow room in the bathroom. Bed and pillows were comfortable. More than enough closet and drawer space to meet our needs. There is a small TV but I do not think we turned it on at all. Cabin steward was efficient picking up and cleaning the room and always leaving fresh ice for us. Room was tastefully decorated and cozy dark. Only complaint was a loud banging noise that happened daily at 5AM coming from somewhere.. We kind of thought it was funny, not sure what it was though. Not a big deal we just rolled over and went back to sleep.
We enjoyed St. Maarten very much. We elected to rent a car from Hertz at the pier. For $68 plus about $10 in gas for the day it was much cheaper than taking any excursion and we got to see many different parts of the island, including Orient Beach, Margiot, Maho Beach and Philipsburg.
Easy in and out embarkation/debarkation
Our favorite port of the trip. No need for a tour here. Head out on your own, walk the city, see the forts enjoy some local food.
Next time in we will probably do an excursion to Atlantis or someplace. Nassau is well Nassau. Crowded streets and not much to see. Walked over to Junkanoo beach - again very crowded. Gorgeous aquamarine waters are the best feature.
