We sailed from Rome on the 11 day trip through the Western Mediterranean. As 2 30-Something single women, we felt like we were the only people in that classification on the whole ship, but that didn't really bother us. Most everyone else was families, couples, or older retired groups. I guess because the Jade is so large, the ship never felt crowded. The Hawaii theme while you're in the Mediterranean is strange, but I thought the ship was still pretty and in fairly nice condition. They were replacing the carpets in some areas on our leg of the journey, so you can tell they're trying to update without taking it out of service.

Embarkation: Civitavecchia is not that easy to reach and you definitely want to plan how you're getting there and allow plenty of time. We took the train, which was pretty easy and cheap out of Rome, but managing your bags on and off the train can be tough. It is a 45 minute ride, but once you get there, you still have quite a trek to the ship. Apparently there was a shuttle from the train station to the port, but we didn't know so we walked. Then found a shuttle inside the port that took us to another shuttle. Very time consuming. Checking in and getting on the ship though was very quick/easy because we got there so late.

Service: All of the employees on the ship were super friendly and courteous. They tried their very best to make sure you had a good time and had everything you needed. We had a room issue one night, and the Guest Services desk was very nice and followed up multiple times to make sure we were satisfied.

Cabin Review

Inside

Cabin IX

Our cabin was fine. Even for 2 chronic over-packers, we had plenty of room to put our stuff away and move around. We had a flooding issue from the bathroom one night, but they fixed it right away and brought in machines to dry out our cabin. However, there were a lot of noise issues. I don't know what it was, but there were loud mechanical sounds and clanging like slamming doors at all hours of the night. Additionally, on the other side of the wall was a lot of crew talking. When we arrived in port, all of the noise intensified. We got used to it, but still...if you like super quiet, maybe choose another room. The best part was how easy it was to get on and off the boat. We almost always exited on deck 4, which was very easy!!

Port Reviews

Monaco (Monte Carlo)

We did a 'Big Bus' tour of the city on our own. There is a stop right outside cruise terminal. We got off at the Palace and watched the changing of the guard then got back on and rode around to the Casino. It doesn't open until 2pm and there is a cover charge, but we thought it was worth visiting.

Barcelona

This city has so much to see! We took the Big Bus Tour so we could try and get an overview. It was well worth the price...and had free wi-fi. Would've loved to spend more time there. Las Ramblas was great for just a walk, easy to find something to eat as you're walking.
