If you are a smoker, this cruise line is for you. I'm not a smoker and this cruise was one of the most disgusting experiences of my life. Wanted to spend a little time in the casino, but couldn't because it was too warm and full of smoke. Bar areas on deck 6 would have been excellent if not for the smoke and overly warm indoor temps. Even the employees were complaining! Patricia at the piano bar was hands down the Best entertainment on the ship. The food was horrid unless you could get in at places that had an up charge. I lost 8lbs. aboard my 21day Jade cruise because the food was so awful. The food on the Dawn was 3 steps up and quite good.

Our cruise was really 2 cruises back to back and a huge mistake was made. I received a letter in my stateroom telling me I was to move to an inside cabin when I booked a balcony for the whole 21 days! Very upsetting and no real help as guest services could not verify my original reservation. In the end, guest services sent a lovely, inexpensive bottle of champagne with an I'm sorry letter, which felt more like a pat on the head and an off you go.

We usually book another cruise before leaving the ship, but I don't think I could sail Norwegian again even for free. Cabin steward was OK room service food was always cold, Blue Lagoon was horrid. The Garden Cafe was like an inner city soup kitchen with a bit of variety. Do not use the ship's laundry for anything you care about. Stay out of the thermal spa/germ pit. Picked up a foot fungus even with water sandals. The excursions were very pricey and not always worth the money. Barcelona/Montserrat, Istanbul, Kusadasi and the Acropolis were fabulous. Pompeii Excavations a complete waste of money. Most of the excursions you couldn't understand the tour guide. The Jade service staff were very gracious and helpful and the sole reason I did not trash the rating to zero. Lastly, huge kudos to Captain Stephan for his good humor and keeping us all safe in the very busy cruise ports.

Cabin Review

Family Balcony

Carpet needed replacing inside cabin and recent vomit not completely cleaned near waste can. Mirrors and walls had many smudges and smears quite visible. Bathroom near commode had what looked like poop stains and the shower had pink and black mold that I had to clean away myself as cabin steward did not. Yes, I did ask nicely. Ran out of shower gel and no conditioner or skin lotion offered like in the most basic of hotels.

Port Reviews

Kusadasi

We hired our own taxi. The House of the Virgin Mary was very serene and spiritual. Ephesus was amazing and a definite do not miss! Great place to buy carpets and leather coats. Beautiful port city and the Turkish people were very gracious. Would love to go back!

Istanbul

Took the public tram from the cruise port to the important sites and the kapali karsi or Grand Bazaar (tram lets off near gate 5). If you want to buy jewellry, this is the gate you want to enter. The best shops are to the down and left of the first cross lane inside of gate 5. Buy the multi use tram ticket. 6 rides for 13 Turkish Lira. The Blue Mosque was interesting, even if it a little off putting. The Turkish people are very kind and gracious to strangers. Please reciprocate in kind, you will not be disappointed.

Naples

Hired a taxi driver named Antonio who gave us fantastic value for the money. Went to Sorrento (you must visit the linen and inlaid wood shop of the square) up the Amalfi coast and back to Naples. Got a tour of old Naples and new Naples, many things you wouldn't normally get to see. 1000 yr. Old church and 800 year old bridge still in use today. Best driving skills I've ever seen!

Monaco (Monte Carlo)

No need for an excursion here. Public transportation is easy and plentiful even early in the season. Bentleys and Ferraris abound and every designer shop. Don't miss le Casino that opens at 2 pm, and at this writing, cost €10 to enter limited areas. My husband played black jack and beat the house enough for me to do some extra swanky shopping.
