The cruise was a good value, winter holiday, the carribean ports and weather were great, but I would not cruise P and O again primarily due to their shoody and lax attitude to safety. I.E I don't want to risk being in a fire, or being unable to evacuate the ship at short notice in an emergency due to drunken passengers.

It is lucky that there was no fire on the ship as passengers openly smoked over the railings both on their balcolnies and deck 7 and numerous stubbed out cigs on the deck floor. I have never seen such a thing on other cruise lines such as Fred Olsen or Celebrity which take fire safety more seriously. I alerted the crew and passengers to the fire risk, and advised passengers to smoke more responsibly but my complaint was ignored.

Passengers drunken behaviour was also treated as a joke and tolerated. For example some people were so drunk after a rum rhunner trip, that one fell down the stairs of the catamaran, and several had to be escorted by the ship's crew to board the ship so that they did not fall into the sea. Two even had to be escorted by wheelchair as they could not walk. Passengers watched and took photos of this walk of shame. Surely it is against international maritime law to allow people who are so drunk that they can barely walk, back onto a cruise ship.
