Our First Back to Back Cruise

Sail Date: October 2013
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We just returned from a Back to Back Cruise on the RCL Oasis of the Seas (October 5th eastern Caribbean and October 12th Western Caribbean).

Food on the Ship was fantastic; we ate nearly every meal in the Windjammer Buffet. Services of Rajan and Alexandar for dinner service in the Windjammer were outstanding. In our opinion the food selections were varied over the two weeks, but we preferred the entree’s on the eastern cruise rather than the western cruise. All of the desserts on both cruises were incredible. The only downside was that some of the customers did not treat the Cruise staff well or with respect, of course that is not the fault of RCL.

We found the ship in mint condition and everyone was working daily to maintain it. Our cabin was kept in impeccable condition thanks to Alfarno. Special hello to him for his smiling greetings each day to his towel animal creations each evening.

We loved waking each morning with our funny Cruise Director, More Dave Chapman, on TV of course not in our cabin. His funny antics and engagement in all of the activities made the cruise so fun. This was our fourth week of sailing on the Oasis and we still have plenty of activities yet to do, they have so many fun things on the Compass each day.

We especially enjoyed walking on the track as it is covered and protected from much of the sun and rain, but still open to great views of the ocean and port areas.

We noticed that Safety is a very high priority on this ship from periodic drills for the crew, to how they worked performing maintenance to taking out the life boats out into the ocean for checks during one of our port stops. This is very comforting. We also applaud the Captain for making a decision to return to port with a seriously ill customer despite the potential delay in arrival at our next port and the expense of extra fuel to makeup the time. In the end we arrived at the next port only a few minutes later than originally planned.

We didn’t advantage of some of the ports as we are a little older now and the heat and humidity was sometimes too much. We did play mini golf, shuffle board and Trivia in the Schooner bar which was all fun. We played BINGO and a little in the Casino, but just play for fun.

Looking forward to our next back to back on the Oasis, maybe next year. Less
