This was the first Carnival Cruise for my wife and me. Music programs are always on top of our list for a successful cruise experience:
The Good: The Elite Duo was fantastic, Guitar Music with Oscar was great, but the Broadway Shows were so so (A couple, S and W who had been on 26 cruises told us that this was the first time they did not care for the Broadway shows on a cruise).
The Bad:
1. Having lounge/lobby singers at the Lido by the pool was a bad mistake.
Lido by the pool is great for DJ and Caribbean music, not lounge
music. This does not need an expert to know the differences.
2. The Cool Club needs better air. The cigar smell was unbearable.
3. There's no singing at the lobby lounge/bar in the last night -- the
center stage of the cruise. It's supposed to be the "Grand Finale".
The result the bar sale was down to the bottom .... So I saved my cognac
and we went to bed earler than usual.
4. Interruptions during singing/dancing at lobby lounge were disrespectful
to guests who were dancing and enjoying the beautiful mood and to their
fellow musicians also. I can recall two occasions: once was on the
second day when the Music Director Malcolm suddenly came in with his DJ
and dancers promoting his show that total ruined the mood in the
lounge. Another time was a photographer without any announcement, just
asked guests to stand up and moved their chairs to the center of the
dancing floor during the singing and dancing, for his group pictures.
Both interruptions were not scheduled and were handled in the rudest
manner, most disrespectful to the guests as well as to the singers.
Both interruptions were resulted a near empty lounge from full house
immediately and no sales at the bar.
The Ugly:
The worse crew members were among the photographers. One male
photographer was particularly rude and used "F" words against guests.
We filed a formal complaint with its department manager.
The Beauty:
1. Our room was #1008 and the room stewards, Ed and his partner were so
polite, hard working ....
2. Lobby Bartender Donna was excellent. When the Elite Duo and other
guests were singing "Happy Birthday" to my wife, Donna brought my
wife's favorite drink and my cognac during the singing and I was more
than glad to pay for them plus a bigger tip.
