My husband and I joined Viking for our second river cruise in June, 2012. Our cruise was scheduled to depart from Basel, Switzerland, but due to high water, we actually were bussed from Basel to Breisach. In spite of the change in plans, our cruise staff managed everything beautifully and made us feel comfortable and special. We arrived on board just in time for dinner on Sunday evening, freshened up quickly, and were greeted by our friendly staff. We found the food to be excellent. The chef makes each meal special. While food on the Viking cruises is not overdone like some ocean cruises, there is always enough food!

The destinations were historically interesting and well-balanced with very knowledgeable tour guides and docents. Unfortunately we had quite a bit of rain on this particular trip, but we were still able to see all of the sites and cities that we had hoped to see. If the weather had been better, I know we would have had even more fun. We especially loved our time in Alsace. Touring Strasbourg and the surrounding area with people who really know the area is a delight. Our only disappointment about this area is we would have liked a little more shopping time. I am pleased that Viking does not take us from one tourist trap to the next. We tend to visit more out of the way places or to visit at off-times so that we don't have to elbow our way to the front of the mass of people.
