Highly rated and many other satisfied customers. Found it all to be true. Ship was amazing, everything was thought out and crew was always attentive and prepared. Staterooms were clean, well appointed and plenty of room. Food on the ship was excellent - plenty of selection and variety, regional dishes served, service was outstanding. Manfredi's (Italian restaurant on ship) was our favorite place to dine, excellent food, service, selection. Tours (with one exception) were well planned, educational with well informed guides, always some free time after the tours to explore, eat or relax. Evening entertainment on ship was outstanding, young performers that I would not be surprised to see on Broadway one day. There were also good lectures and discussions about the ports of call and related subjects. Without exception, all the staff working on the ship were friendly, courteous, attentive and efficient. Met a lot of enjoyable passengers as well, enjoyed meals together. The extension trip was wonderful, the best part being the Viking appointed hostess. She was well above all our expectations! Scenery, tours, restaurants and hotels were most enjoyable. Will definitely be taking another Viking cruise in the future. Read Less

We had previously used Viking for China and had THE most amazing and wonderful experience so we naturally looked at Viking for the Mediterranean. The ship, Viking Star was immaculate at all times, the staff friendly and helpful, cabin clean and spacious and the communal areas well maintained. The buffet food was incredible and the special seafood night at poolside was a foodies delight. We did all the included excursions and bought 3 additional trips. Venice Opera, was expensive and didn't live up to the brochure explanation...warm wine and no snacks! However, the balance of the trips where good but very busy in Athens as there where several other cruise ships and it was a bit of a bun fight at times, that aside we enjoyed them. Several of the guides where exceptional, a few good and one mmmmmm just ok...but it didn't spoil our overall experience. If we did Viking again we would look again at the additional trips that say 'with wine and snacks' a little more carefully ! Read Less

We have received brochures from Viking for many years, for river cruises, most of which went to places we had already visited by land. When this cruise down the Adriatic came through, we chose it to celebrate our Golden Wedding, as a special treat. It could not have been more wonderful. The whole ship was beautifully laid out, with attractive, subtle decoration (not all gold and glitz), it was extremely efficiently run with every procedure going smoothly, and the staff were all fantastic - friendly, helpful and cheerful, even when they had been working all day, and some during the night too while we sailed. All the visits in port were beautifully organised and the guides were good. The crowds in some towns were unfortunate but on board, we did not feel at all crowded, despite there being 1400 people on board. This holiday was way beyond our expectations and we are recommending Viking to all our friends. Another trip may well be in the diary at some stage. Read Less

We chose Viking Ocean Cruise because we have taken 2 river cruises and we were extremely impressed with the staff, the ship and the excursions so we decided to go with Viking Ocean. The ship had so much to offer. We loved having the infinity pool to hang out at after an excursion. It was so relaxing and a great place to meet other people. The suites are fabulous, plenty of room to relax and enjoy. The housekeeping staff and other staff are very friendly and always trying to please. We felt the dining was a bit off for breakfast and lunch. We would sit at a table and there would not be a salt and pepper shaker on the table and it would take awhile before someone would come over to help us. The restaurants on the ship were excellent. The only disappointment was that the food did not match the ports that we visited. We felt the food on the river cruise was much better and the variety of food was excellent on the river cruise. We would take another ocean cruise with viking but we prefer the river cruises with less people on the ship. Read Less

We had gone on the Rhine River Cruise in 2017 and were so impressed with Viking - the food, the excursions, the staff and accommodations - we knew we would travel with Viking again. Italy and Greece were two destinations on my bucket list so when we found the Emperors of the Mediterranean we know that was the cruise we needed to book next. The ship was beautiful, the options and the guides for each excursion were exceptional. The pre- excursion in Tuscany was wonderful - the billa accommodations and meals prepared at the villa were phenomenal and Roberta, our guide, was amazing! The deluxe suite on the ship was beautiful and spacious. I loved the afternoon in Winter Garden and all the beautiful sitting and lounge areas throughout the ship were great. We really enjoyed the spa and Harri was amazing for my massage and we participated in the Nordic Bathing Ritual with Harri as well. The snow grotto was a fun addition to the spa area. I was, unfortunately, disappointed with the food. We felt the food - variety and quality - on the river cruise was far superior to the ocean cruise. There seemed to be a lot of repetition each night and many items lacked flavor. The river cruise did a better job of tailoring each dinner to the port/ region we were visiting. The port talks were a bit too early, often missing them because we were just getting back from an excursion or cutting into the tea time. The other suggestion to consider is the amount of free time built into the excursions. While I understand we are on a tight time table we did not feel there was enough free time to explore the area on our own. Typically we had 20 30 minutes of free time at the end of the excursion which was not enough time to grab a drink or cup of coffee let alone do any shopping. Over all the ocean cruise was good however I think our next Viking trip we will return to the river options. Read Less

We have cruised over 25 times on various small ship cruise lines. Have river cruised with Viking 3 times and wanted to try their new ocean ships. We were very happy with the Viking Star. It has beautiful public spaces, we were always able to find a spot by the pool and the outside decks. Poolside service was a little slow. Our Explorer Suite was perfect. Love being on the back of the ship with expansive views as we sailed away. Because this was a relatively short cruise, 12 days, we only dined in the main restaurant once. It didn't impress. Food and ambiance were just a little above average. We really enjoyed the Chef's Table restaurant with wine pairings. The Italian restaurant didn't disappoint either. Entertainment was just average, some evenings only a movie was offered. Overall service was very good and the ports were great. It's really makes a big difference to have the quiet boxes during a shore excursion. Read Less

The Viking Star and crew did not disappoint. It is often said you get what you pay for and Viking stood tall. The crew hospitality was heart warming to say the least, always personalized and always delivered in a jubilant way that is refreshingly uplifting to the spirt after a long day ashore or leaving your cabin for an anticipated dinner experience. The physical appearance of The Star is impressive in it’s absolutely clean environment throughout the ship. This was our second Viking Cruise on The Star, the last being 15 nights out of Barcelona to Bergen in 2018. It was uplifting to see again so many crew members who’s interactions with each other, regardless of status, continue to be seamlessly positive. Five stars to the entertainment on-board. It would be unjust to single anyone out, least I forget to mention someone, from singers to band members all were exceptionally talented. My only (false) negative is that my failure at self discipline led to a few pounds joining us is a testament to the exceptional variety and quality of food and beverage. We look forward to next summer where a Viking River Cruise awaits our discovery and new adventures. Tom & Regina Read Less

We like smaller ships rather than the huge ocean liners., which is why we picked Viking. The Viking Star is very elegant and first class in every way and has a personal feel because of the smaller size. The food at all the restaurants was very high quality. We were impressed with all the healthy choices and the variety of great food. The service on the ship was extremely attentive. The cabin was very spacious. The one thing I would criticize would be the lack of drawers for clothing. I think more drawers would make the room perfect. I requested more hangers, which definitely helped. The bathroom had a good amount of storage space and the shower was a very comfortable size. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The selection of shore excursions was very good and we enjoyed our tours. The entertainment was fun and well done. We traveled with 3 other couples and we all enjoyed having meals together in the beautiful dining rooms. The Restaurant was a particular favorite. We loved World Cafe for breakfast. We also enjoyed hanging out at the infinity pool during our free time and going into the hot tub., We would definitely do another cruise with Viking. Read Less

We had been anxious to visit the Balkan countries along the Adriatic, and felt that the cruise itinerary offered on the Viking Star would be the best way to do this. Having traveled on other ocean cruise lines, we were pleasantly surprised at how much of a "step up" our experience on Viking was. Lots of space, pleasant environs, excellent dining and top of the line shore excursions. The staff were definitely there to serve. Guest Services did an outstanding job when we had any questions or concerns. The ports of call were excellent, however, we were a little disappointed in how crowded several of the ports were (Dubrovnik and Santorini). The main Restaurant offered an excellent menu, with "local" offerings associated with the current port of call. The wine selection was good. The Explorers Lounge was a pleasant place for a pre-dinner cocktail, especially when sailing away from port. We definitely would sail with Viking again. Read Less

We wanted to try Viking ocean cruise ships since we have made several river cruises. It was a beautiful ship with the customary superb Viking care, service and food. And we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary by visiting Italy for the first time, taking the Italian Sojourn, Venice to Rome cruise. We took the Tuscany extension which included staying in a 600 year old villa set in the beautiful Tuscany countryside. One of the highlights of that visit was an enchanting dinner at an even older villa and winery. Viking excels in remarkably designed cabins that maximize space and efficiency. We received the wonderful care by the crew on our deck as well as in the dining room as we have in the past river cruises we've taken. One of the bonuses of the ocean cruise was the remarkable lecturer who was uniquely qualified to communicate enriching information and insights into both Italy and Croatia as well each port of call. He was delightful and helpful in his presentations and happily answered questions one on one. Another bonus was the tremendous bargain we received by scheduling our next cruise while onboard during the cruise. We chose a river cruise from Lyon to Avignon in southern France and the saved a great deal by dong that. All in all, we encourage anyone to try Viking ocean cruises.. Read Less

We had gone on a Viking River Cruise, and were so impressed with the quality that we decided to try an Ocean Cruise. We added a 2 day stay in Barcelona before the cruise and a 3 day stay in Tuscany after the cruise. Everything was arranged by Viking for this. Upon arriving in Barcelona, we were greeted by Viking reps at the luggage pick up and they graciously guided us through customs and to our transportation to our hotel At the Hotel we were again greeted by a Viking representative to lead us to checking in to the hotel, and since we were early for our room, he led us to an area where other reps talked to us about possible excursions were could take while in Barcelona. Absolutely no pressure was put on us to take any excursions at all. The rep answered all of our questions and guided us to an excursion that would show us Gaudi sites in town. Our room was ready when we finished. The recommended tour was great, as was the night of flamenco dancing they recommended. We were given clear instructions about where to leave our luggage for the trip to the ship, and that all went seamlessly. At the ship we were again greeted graciously, and given champagne while we waited for our room where we found all our luggage already delivered. We were almost immediately greeted by our steward who answered all our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The next 13 days were glorious. the excursions were well planned and left plenty of free time for us to explore on our own. back at the ship, the service was amazing. The staff could not do enough for you, and the food....I didn't miss a meal which was the only problem with the trip. Many of the staff knew us by name after seeing them only a few times and made us fee as if we were the only couple they needed to take care of. We visited 4 of the restaurants on board and the food was excellent in each. The 3 days in Tuscany afterward I would recommend to everyone. Bothe the hotel and oyr guide were amazing. Read Less

The best review is....WE BOOKED ANOTHER CRUISE while onboard! Our positives are too many to mention here...glorious sunrises with breakfast on our private veranda are at the top of that long list! Viking is a well-oiled machine...from coordination of airport transportation, embarkation, the fabulous excursion options, how we were organized to exit the ship for excursions, dining options, OMG! We felt spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. Our only negative was the post-extension in Rome. Going forward, we will consider a pre-extension....the post-extension affected our relaxed mood following the cruise where we were spoiled, but I’m sure that was the hustle and bustle of Rome. Wish Viking had offered us excursions in advance in Rome during the post-extension trip just as they did during the cruise as all cruise excursions were excellent. Of the two Viator tours that we booked on our own in Rome, one was phenomenal and one was a disappointment (the most expensive one!). The group dinner on our last night in Rome, that our Viking rep at the hotel coordinated after our arrival in Rome, was a night to remember, so.... more of that please. I personally needed to pre-arrange in advance to assure we took full advantage of our short time in Rome. So, giving us advance options for Rome through Viking would have been preferred. I heard a few others on the cruise who were also in the post-extension trip say the same. We now plan to take many more cruises with Viking. THANK YOU VIKING!!! Read Less

Well we came off this cruise with two more booked.....and can't wait to experience viking again Needless to say we LOVED it and it was the best experience we've had on a cruise (this was at least our 12th). -Embarkation/Disembarkation was super easy -The rooms were lovely and the layout of the ship was spacious and felt so relaxing -Our steward I Made was excited and made us feel very welcome for the two weeks aboard -The excursions ran very smoothly! and we loved getting free bottle water before we got off the ship at each port -The food was incredible as was the service in the dining areas -The spa was a lovely treat after a long day -We loved the board games too! Overall we are beyond pleased and can't wait to sail with Viking again! Theres not nickel and diming. Its such a great relaxing trip Read Less

Our cruise started with a 2 day pre cruise hotel at the Hilton Venice which was excellent. We are regular cruisers with this being a first with Viking. We have sailed with P and O , Celebrity, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Fred Olsen. We have to say Viking excelled in everything and wouldn’t hesitate to go with them again if the itinerary was right. Yes they are initially more costly but this is offset with the included excursions which are varied and drinks included with lunch and Dinner. Also free use of the spa facilities excluding treatments. The food is the best we’ve had on any cruise and with the alternative restaurants at no charge this gives you great variety without paying a subsidy. We definitely liked the more intimate nature of the smaller ship compared to the newer mega ships which are getting too big for our liking. Ports of call excellent and overall a fabulous cruise. My wife and I wanted to see Italy and this cruise seemed like the perfect fit. It allowed my wife and I to travel from Venice to Rome with several stops in between. We purchased some optional excursions that were truly great, but most the the included excursions were a little unstructured for our liking. Previous experience from an excellent Viking River cruise left us with an expectation that was not met with the Ocean cruise experience. Overall still a great cruise. The food was great and we upgraded to a junior suite room on board which felt like a full size hotel room. A little odd that very few traditional Italian meals were prepared. Accommodations were excellent and viking staff was super attentive. We added a 3 day extension when we got to Rome and that was a true highlight. We did not add extension with Viking as only a 2 day was available and we wanted at least 3 days. Staying on our own was less than half the cost anyway. Not sure why Viking charged so much for an extension when it only included transportation from the boat and the room. Overall Viking is a high quality cruise with lots of attention paid to passengers. Ship had great entertainment and created a fun environment. Read Less

Also provided garlic free dinners for special dietary needs. 50th Wedding Anniversary cake was fantastic and one of the best cakes we've ever had! Swimming pools were however too deep for elderly passengers to enjoys 5' 10" uniform depth. over 95% of passengers heads and had to tread water. Too discomforting! Also thermal suite was not monitored by a Viking attendant. Too much risk for the elderly: thermal shock, pool current very strong, slippery floors, lighting..... Would like at least one other entree choice at the Chef's Table menu. Say one meat entree and one seafood entree, Also not enough wine portions served with each course. We chose Viking because of the small ship. All of our other cruises have been on large cruise ships and we are tired of those. We lived in Europe for two years so we weren’t interested in any of the River Cruises you offered as we have already toured those areas. We had not been to Italy so that was why we chose this cruise. We were so pleased with all of the staff on this cruise. From the cabin staff to the bar staff, they were all wonderful. We ate most meals at the World Cafe because we did not realize you had to make reservations so far in advance for the speciality restaurants. I would have liked to have had a more varied restaurant choice. The World Cafe was good but I do not liking eating at buffets, so it was not a good dining experience for me. I am also a vegetarian and there were not a lot of vegetarian dishes at the buffet. We would love to do a Viking Cruise to Scotland. Do you have any of those planned in the future? Read Less

We chose the Viking Cruise because of all the fabulous countries that it offers to take people. We have seen many commercials about Viking and we loved that everyone has a balcony to sit out and relax. With other cruise lines, this is given to passengers that pay more. Viking is also very different in a great way. We were given wine, beer and soft drinks with our meals, sit down dinner restaurants are also included versus other cruise lines where you have to pay for your meals in these restaurants. Food was outstanding with Gelato every day! You can have a steak cooked to your preference. Viking offers complimentary excursions in every port or you can opt out and choose one that you want to pay. With other cruise lines, all excursions are paid by passengers. The entertainment was the best. We had dancing in the lobby with the Cruise Director and entertainers participating. Washers and dryers with detergent and fabric softeners are there free for passengers. Outstanding staff that go out of their way to make the impossible possible for passengers. I have heard many former Viking cruisers that they will not use any others but Viking. We had a blast and will continue to return to Viking for our vacations! Read Less

We haven't done much travelling in the Med area so thought this cruise was an ideal way to see a lot of places for a taster. Great embarkation procedure. We had travelled Viking oceans before so knew what to expect of the ship, and where everything was. The ship is well laid out, and the relaxing atmosphere on board is great. There are plenty of places to sit and relax both out in the fresh air and indoors. The entertainment on board, is good because each show isn't too long but is very professional. There is always a great presence of staff on board from The captain, who is usually very approachable, down to the maintenance guys, everyone has time to speak to you. The shore excursions included are usually panoramic and therefore not of a great length but give a good overview. There is usually a shuttle bus in towns so you can go back after lunch or stay out and return when it suits. The optional trips are quite expensive so we feel it just depends on how keen you are to see whats on offer Read Less

This was our first Viking cruise, and overall we were thrilled with our experience. Looking for a cruise with more stops, and no sea days in the mediterranean, this was a great option. Service was king, and clearly on the minds of every staff member we encountered. From checkin to waitstaff... we were treated very well. The only major complaint was not being able to wear shorts in the dining room. This was pretty ridiculous. The rules don't say explicitly that we couldn't wear shorts. I wear pressed shorts and most days had a nice linen button up shirt on, with either sneakers or birkenstocks. Given that it was HOT in most ports and we were tired at the end of the day... being met with resistance at our wardrobe was not welcome. I'm told that we could have insisted in the dining room... but I would rather it just be clear... shorts should be acceptable. I would call the way I dressed more "Resort Casual" or "Country Club Casual" yet was denied access to the main dining room. Thankfully the buffet was excellent. The staff was attentive, quickly coming to tables for drinks and to clear plates. The food selections were also very good, even having a few fun nights at the pool where they had fish and chips and surf and turf. The coffee bar in the main lobby area was also excellent. It was also nice to have basic drinks included. We're not drinkers, but not charging extra for specialty coffees was a huge plus. We also loved that there was plenty of spacious room in the common areas around the main staircase, with beautiful blankets. It was cozy and warm, and felt more like a really classy hotel... instead of the Vegas glitz that many cruise ships have adopted. Even with my complaint about shorts, and the fact that the TV in our stateroom didn't have a sleep timer and we could hear the neighboring stateroom tv though the wall... it was a wonderful experience. We have been on the larger cruise ships as well but there was no comparison, the ratio of passengers to crew was amazing your every need was catered for by a crew who seemed to be enjoying their work as much as you we enjoying the cruise. Management were always in evidence but not in an intrusive way. Our steward was a lovely chap. The only thing was l might have liked a get together in the evening about the next day like they have on the river cruise as you get more information than just reading it on a daily handout. We chose Into the Midnight Sun on the Viking Star because the itinerary was appealing and we find cruising with Viking to be enjoyable. Viking is attractive because their associates are friendly, engaging, sincerely concerned for our welfare and pay close attention to making certain that all details are covered. The itinerary included a pre-cruise option to visit Reykjavik, Iceland. We enjoyed visiting the Blue Lagoon; the national park and its fabulous waterfall; and the city of Reykjavik. Our cruise started in Bergen, Norway and continued on the inside passage past the Arctic Circle to Norway's northernmost point, the North Cape. On the way we visited breathtaking scenic fjords and small villages. The landscape photo opportunities were endless from daybreak to sleep time as there was no darkness. On our way to London, we had relaxing days at sea prior to reaching Scotland's Orkney and Shetland islands where we visited Viking settlements that dated back 5000 years. The final leg of our voyage was exceptional as our large ship navigated the Thames River from the English Channel to Greenwich, London. Read Less
