We chose this cruise for the destinations, and were informed it was of a very high standard. Sadly this was not the case. Dirty buffet tables and mugs. Deck 5 stank of cigarettes. Excluding the Indonesian staff, some were badly trained and others were simply ignorant. Two of our pre-paid excursions were cancelled at the last minute and it was 'impossible' to swap another, as three coaches were 'completely full'. We purposely chose this cruise for the excursions, which we researched and selected months before. An envelope through the cabin door the night before cancelling all your plans, is a poor way to run a holiday business. Customer Care:- A shrug Arrival was nightmare, no signs to shuttle buses, many people lost. No help with luggage and a general lack of communication overall. Departure was not much better, damaged luggage dumped in dark shed. Having cruised before, this was a shock to the system. I will not cruise again, this company has seen to that. Read Less

I read the reviews about this ship extensively before sailing, and have to admit most of the negative ones are quite accurate, this is not a luxury cruise, but a functional ferry, guests embark and disembark at every port. We chose it for the Med destinations which we enjoyed, Genoa/Portafino, Marseille, Palma, Ibiza and Olbia, disembarking at Livorno. The first thing folks from the US, UK or Australia notice is that most of the crew have the personality of passport control officers at international airports. A few reasonable ones stood out, but guest services need a total overhaul. We had a balcony suite, which size wise was quite nice, with a reasonable sized balcony area. If you book this option don't choose deck 10, go for deck 9, because every night at 1.30 am (yes, in the morning) the sun lounges on the swimming pool level, which is immediately above the ceiling of your deck 10 cabin are dragged and stacked (slammed) into racks for one hour and at 5.00 am for another hour, bought out again, just as noisely. Everything linen wise had dirty marks on it, sheets, duvet covers pillow covers, towels, the lot, which besides being disgraceful, is bad advertising for their expensive laundry service. No irons provided, you must engage their laundry service again. We chose their top option Internet, as there was three in the cabin, apparently you could run four devices, what they didn't mention was that they couldn't be run together!! The top option was painfully slow, and at sixty euro's for 1.5 GB, a rip-off. The port terminals had free wifi and reasonably quick, so save your money. Paying for the balcony suite you eat in the La Pergola restaurant in the evening, sometimes certain dishes are quite nice, but mostly very ordinary. Even in their best restaurant they advertise a T-bone steak option on cards at an extra 18 Euro's, which is tacky making the place more cafeteria like. Although there are signs at the water stations about not refilling water bottles, just do it, MSC try to take you for everything. Read Less

The food was horrible - i tried to get as many meals as i could off the ship. And the service in the restaurants was extremely bad. One night we waited more than 30minutes before getting bread, water or drinks. Another night we asked for a coffee after dinner, the waiter told us we could go to the bar to get it ourselves. The cabin steward was uncooperative. And the day that they did balcony cleaning they made the balcony look actually dirtier than it had been. The cabin itself remained dirty throughout our stay and despite our complaints. Reception service was shockingly horrible. They were consistently rude, particularly Manuel. At one point Manuel was telling us it was absolutely impossible to take our luggage off the ship ourselves. We had a very early and urgent transfer at the end of the cruise and could not trust them to take our luggage off the ship in a timely fashion (because while embarking they said it would take one hour to get the luggage to our room, and it took three hours.) In the end of course we took our luggage off the ship ourselves with no problem - and i recommend this as we were gone off the ship WAY ahead of the people that followed their procedure. At another point in the cruise, we had a question about how to settle our bill. Unfortunately we ended up talking with Manuel again. A woman from the Reception team had told us on the phone that they could help us. Manuel said they could not. This colleague and Manuel began arguing about this in front of us. Then they spoke in Italian, including snide remarks about me personally in Italian - i do not know why they thought i would not understand, my last name is clearly Italian. The security team was consistently rude and haggard looking as we would disembark and reembark at the ports. And many things around the public areas of the ship simply were not functioning, such as more than half of the touch screens where we are supposed to sign up for the shows, or even the signs pointing the way to various parts of the ship that would lead us to deadends. i have cruised also with Holland America and Norwegian. i know that MSC is basically a cheaper option, but i did not expect it to be this bad. i have never seen cruise service as bad as it consistently was on the Armonia.
