First family cruise with my husband and 2 daughters age 16 and 22. We traveled from Louisiana to Seattle and stayed one night in Seattle. Wish we had more time in Seattle to take City Tour. It was a bit rainy though.EMBARKMENT:We embarked at 11:45 with very little waiting. (About 30 minutes from arrival to entering our cabins.) Very organized. We did notice that the line behind us was quite long and slowed down. Some people on the cruise complained that at 1:00 the lines were terribly long. Our luggage was in our rooms when we boarded.FIRST DAY:As you embark, they tell you about the buffet but we heard to go to the dinning room instead. Glad we went to lunch in the Donatello Dinning Room.(deck 6) We enjoyed the smaller crowd and watched others embark. The Buffet Line was very long and unorganized. Next we walked around on each level until it was time to sail. Later we unpacked and began planing our activities. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The cabin stewart greeted us by name and was very helpful.WEATHER:Cool during the day, Cold at night. We wore light sweaters or jackets on board. We layered for excursions. (Shirt, fleece, light rain jacket.) Bring sunglasses and binoculars. We had very sunny but windy days. FOOD:We had anytime dining and loved it. We ate breakfast at Buffet or in the cabin. (free room service) Lunch and dinner varied from Dining Room, Buffet or Pizza on Deck. The International Cafe also offered great sandwich options. Service in Dinning Rooms was excellent. We often were asked to share a table with others and we loved it. We met guests from across the states and shared wonderful conversations. It was also great to see them later in various places on the ship. Food in Horizon Court/Buffet was often cold!CABINS:We selected 2 cabins in order to have 2 bathrooms. Very necessary with teenage girls. We had one balcony room and on inside room across the hall which worked out well. The balcony on Caribe deck is much larger than others. Beware, Dolphin deck balcony was not covered and those people got wet with the misty rain. We sat on the balcony often and enjoyed being able to see the beautiful sunrise over the snow-capped mountains. We also saw whales and sea lions from the balcony. BRING BINOCULARS!!!! While in Glacier Bay we went to the upper deck for a view but mainly spent the day on the balcony of our room. More room than I expected. C321 was a balcony room and C331 was inside across the hall. Both had ample storage with plenty of hangers. Small bathroom with tiny shower. Cabin Stewart, Herman, was wonderful. He greeted us by name daily and kept our rooms clean. He left towel animals in the girls room. We had fresh fruit in our cabin daily.ENTERTAINMENT/ACTIVIIES:There was a bit of something for everyone. Listing of all activities for the next day were delivered to our cabins by 7:00 each evening. Some acts were better than others. Morning Talk show on TV was informational as well as the Port talks by Dave each day. While my husband and I enjoyed the music, my daughters did not. Mostly 60's, 70's and 80's. We enjoyed the evening shows, Comedian, Illusionist and traditional song and dance shows. We attended ballroom dance lessons, yoga, trivia, naturalist lectures, parties held after 10:00 in the nightclub. Did not participate in BINGO, bridge, Zumba, gambling lessons, health seminars, afternoon tea, art auctions, jewelry shows, line dancing, ceramics, golf, and many more. My 16 year old spent most of her time in the teen center. They had hourly activities planned throughout the day which she enjoyed. (Crafts, Wii games, Dance Contests, "Princess Idol", Ice Cream Parties, Behind the Scene Tours, Teen Mocktail Party, Pool/Spa Parties, Ping Pong, etc) She met many other kids her age. Not too many activities for the 22 year old though. Check out the Library to borrow books, games and cards.PORTS: Long waits to get off ship each day. Be patient.Juneau - We went on a float trip to Mendehall Glacier. Beautiful scenery, slow flowing river ride with a few small rapids. Not exciting enough for my daughters though. They did love to shop in Juneau afterwards. Most people went whale watching and loved it.Skagway - Took the Klondike Summit,Gold Panning & White Pass Train excursion. Great trip, beautiful scenery and enjoyed by all. Panning for gold was fun. The walk from the ship was long so consider the $2.00 shuttle if you want to walk around and shop. Ketchikan - A misty rain that day. We saw the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. This was fun and entertaining and close to the ship. Then we walked the small town. Everything within walking distance. Wish we had gone to Bight Todem Park, Heard it was great.VICTORIA: Beautiful city. We took shuttle to city and walked around. Not much time to explore. Heard from others that the garden tour was the best! Very cold that night.DISLIKES: Too many photos taken. On both formal nights the lines were long and the photographer would take 8 - 10 photos of each group. Be ready to spend a lot on photos and do not wait until the last day - very long lines. Internet Cafe: too expensive. Horizon Court/Buffet: - a bit unorganized. People were confused as to which way to go. Way too much Art on display. It was great to view once but not everyday spread out on every deck.Did not use Spa, Casino, Sanctuary, or Movie under the stars (too cold at night). Pools were heated!DISEMBARKMENT DAY:Very Smooth & quiet. Ate breakfast at 7:00. Left cabin at 8:00 to go to designated area. Left ship by 9:15. Luggage was sorted by color and easily found. Short walk to shuttle to the airport. What a wonderful family vacation. We look forward to another Princess cruise in the future.
