A planned ten year anniversary and we picked Princess because we had cruised with them before. We started with the land portion first and it was the first week of the season, flying in to Fairbanks a day early at 3 am was not a good idea. Because the Princess lodge did not opened until 11 an the next day. Thank god that the rep at the airport sent us to Princess other hotel Windward and they put us up for the night. Also they made arrangements with the Princess Lodge and we did not have to pay for that night with them. Not much do to in Fairbanks so I suggest you book a tour. The next day we got transported via coach to Princess Denali lodge, at this place we had a nice cozy room and it had a resort type feeling. They had about five different places for food and a few shops on the premises. The big issue we had here was the dis-organization from the employees, especially the restaurants. Long time to get menus, been waited and food delivery and kept getting the excuse that it was the first day of the season. I really did not care for the excuse because I still pay top dollar for our vacation. I will recommend the tour to Denali park, the bus tour guide Dallen was very informative and knowledgeable. Our next stop was McKinley lodge, not impress with the lodge. Only had a high end restaurant, a sport type bar with food and a coffee shop. Also a small gift shop. We did the horseback ride tour and that was very good, again not much to do here so we suggest to do some kind of a tour. Next day they took us via coach to catch the train down to our ship, the experience on the train was very good and the tour guide lady was very knowledgeable. We had a decent lunch and were able to have cocktails on the scenic route. I want to remind you that all meals & drinks were not included in our package for the land portion of this trip. It can get a little expensiveness because everything has to be imported in to Alaska. Upon arrival to the ship in Anchorage, also nothing to do here. They had us check in to the ship in a hanger type of building, oh yes very cold and wet that day. Once we boarded the ship we were able to go to our cabin and this is when it got worse with Princess, we had up graded to a Mini-Suite cabin for our anniversary and the amenities. Well to begin our cabin attendant was very forgetful. We were supposed to have robes in cabin upon arrival and I had to ask him for them, he said he was sorry an that he had forgotten. He also forgot tissue box, breakfast menus and the one extra towel that we requested. Like I said we up graded to a mini suite for a reason, we really wanted to use the tub as part of our anniversary. Well it was the worst old & chipped tub, pretty disgusting thing. Would not have even bathed my dog in it and we had drain clogging every time we showered. The buffet food on was good, could have a little more choices. The food in the main dinning restaurant needed help, not very tasty, very limited on selections. We were looking forward to crab night and lobster night. Neither nights were any good, probably worse meals ever! They lack entertainment thru out the week on the ship, especially when half the time you are on the ship. My wife likes going to the sauna & steam rooms in the Spa area when were are on the ships but these were out of order almost every day. They kept telling her it would be fix soon. I will also recommend you to do tours when docked, Skagway one of the tour we did was whale watching with a salmon bake (only problem did not have a lot of time at the salmon bake, were kind of rushed back to the ship) and the other in Juneau was a boat nature tour the ended with all you can eat Dungeness crab, their was informative but the best part was all you can eat crab after. And lastly we docked in Ketchikan, we did zip lining it was okay not very long and lots of stores here. Our last day on the ship heading to Vancouver was again very dull and boring, on arrival at 8 am the debarkation was very confusing. We had to rent a room for the day because our flight didn't leave until 11:30 pm. Also Vancouver was not all that great of a city like we have heard from other that had been there previously. This was a 14 day vacation with 7 on land and 7 on ship, would we do it again probably not. Just to many hiccups along the way and we think it was over priced.
