Sail Date: Dec 2009

We had originally booked the Regent Navigator Christmas cruise covering Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Grand Cayman. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to the ship requiring a refit so we booked the Maasdam as it was a similar itinerary and we were assured it was an excellent cruise line. Having experienced many cruise lines I can assure you this was the worse we have ever experienced although the HAL fans enjoyed it having not experienced other lines. What they are missing! The air conditioning was freezing throughout the ship in all public areas and the AC could not be adjusted in the cabins as they were all broken. The cabins were tired, bathrooms old and the bedding, pillows and robes poor, lumpy and washed out. Smoking was allowed in numerous public areas of the ship. There was general disorganisation in the restaurant, particularly within the 'open dining' experience and including the Pinnacle Grill which was $20 pp extra. Generally tables were not cleared of crockery and cutlery when people vacated their tables. The entertainment which is important to us was very 3rd rate compared with that offered on other cruise lines. The staff tried their best but with a tired, old ship there is little they can do to make the experience better.
