We escaped the heat of Florida for the cool Alaskan glaciers and it was wonderful to be on the ms Amsterdam!

Overall, yes, the ship is showing her age a bit but I loved how she "flowed" with well-designed public spaces. The only time we felt crowded was in the rush to get to an excursion, last day look at photos and occasionally in the line for ice cream at the Lido buffet. All to be expected, I think. Food, crew and service were fantastic!

It's important to know that the Holland passengers skew older. If you have only ever sailed on "fun" ships, the daily schedule will seem boring to you. If you are looking for peace and quiet with mostly evening entertainment options, you'll probably like the Amsterdam. Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin G

We waited for the last minute deal on this cruise so had limited choice of cabins. I was pleasantly surprised! This cabin is near the front with two portholes. If the beds are in the twin configuration I don't think you'd have any space issues. In the king bed configuration, you do have to squeeze a bit between the love seat on one side and the desk on the other when getting in and out of bed. There is only one outlet but a triple plug-in was already in place (I didn't need to bring the power strip with me). (I also saw the front desk signing out power strips - probably on a first come, first served basis). There was a bit of rust in one corner of the bathroom and a bit around the portholes. Otherwise, the room was kept very clean by our wonderful stewards (Made and Tri). We only had one somewhat rocky day but the room being so low in the ship helped mitigate that. This cabin is directly across from the infirmary reception area which can make for some interesting encounters when you're coming and going.

Port Reviews

Icy Strait

We planned to walk around on our own but the rain discouraged us. We were able to see and take pictures of several eagles from the ship decks.

Homer

Walked around the spit. Went to lands end and back to the Sawlty Dawg Saloon - cool place with free Wi-Fi! Stopped at a few stores (comparison shop a bit for best deals). Caught the convenient FREE shuttle from Saloon back to the ship.

Seattle

Offers lots of activities - visited space needle and MoPop museum on previous visit. Great food at the Market!
