I travelled with my wife & first time cruiser daughter. We had been looking forward to a relaxing 7 night cruise to the South Pacific; how wrong we were. It beggars belief how a company or for that matter a captain of any worth would take a ship load of passengers out toward a cyclone; it's not like they didn't know about it we knew before we left Melbourne. I would have much preferred P&O to have given us the option of a refund or a credit to use at another time than to have been subjected to the horrendous conditions that they put us in. I guess that it was all about profits rather than passenger safety or pleasure.
I myself do not get sea sick but my wife does and she spent a lot of time lying down feeling very unwell while my daughter who suffers from anxiety spent most of the time worrying if we would get back to Brisbane at all.
The fact that during dinner we heard a really loud bang & the ship listed to one side causing food, glasses and other objects to be swept off the table was very unnerving. Did the captain or anyone from the bridge speak to us to reassure us that all was well NO. The next afternoon the captain spoke about the incident; very poor communication.
