We enjoyed our cruise of the Canary Islands on this cruise ship in January 2016. This may not be the newest, largest or most American-oriented boat in the fleet, but it is still providing a great cruise experience to its guests. It's a cruise ship like any other.
There are some aspects that deserve special mention. (1) This cruise was "affordable" with a capital "A". (2) Upgrading is easy to do right after check-in. They actually encouraged it. Costs only 35 euros extra. (3) The soft drinks were included in the price. Never seen that on a cruise before. (4) Wait, it gets better -- booze is included in the price. Yes, you read that right. Wine, beer, liquor, liqueur, cocktails - all included. (5) The standard of food was very high. At times, it was superb. Better than you'd see on any other cruise ship.
We liked the Spanish ambiance of the ship and the passengers. This was Spain, after all, and it felt appropriate during this itinerary. However, everything was in English too, and the ship felt international. No problems with smokers, or anything like that.
We took the tram up to San Cristobal la Laguna. Charming old town and cathedral there.
Free wifi at the McDonald's at the end of the quay. Charming main shopping street.
The boat arrives during siesta, so there's not much going on. We couldn't find a local tour to get to the top of the volcano. If you need to see that, book something in advance. Hire cars were available though if you were willing to risk it. Not much in Arrecife. We lounged at the 2nd floor pool of the Grand Hotel. Bar and restaurant there.
Company offers tours for 20 euros right by the gate. Takes you to Corralje and aloe vera place. There is a mall in town, but we didn't go. Not much else.
