It has been less than a week since we disembarked from our 10th cruise overall, our 5th Carnival cruise and our 1st time both on the Destiny and with our adult daughter and her children. The experience was enlightening to say the least. The boarding procedures went well, although I had some concerns about the necessity for a letter from my ex-son-in-law being required for bringing the children aboard. My daughter had the notarized form letter, but no one ever asked for it. After the emphasis placed on this by the travel agency, this very much surprised me. Subsequent to dropping our bags in the cabin (my wife is very good at finding an unlocked entrance) we went to the Lido restaurant for the buffet lunch. I had the New York style deli, which never fails to amaze me with its quality. Since the Rascal House closed, I find it the best around. For that matter, I think the food and table service on the Destiny were the best of any of the Carnival ships on which I've sailed. We ate in the Universe dining room, and after playing musical tables and tablemates, found ourselves with a Mom & her three teenagers whose company we enjoyed immensely. For that matter, as this was a holiday period, we met many people traveling with school aged children, many of whom were military, and all of whom were very much fun to be with. Both of my grand-children (13 & 10) found kids to spend time with although neither of them had much use for Carnival's camp. IMHO, this feature is vastly overrated. There did not seem to be much for these kids to do, especially the younger ones who were to be found in otherwise unused, but not suitable venues, around the ship. Our interior cabin was adequate to our needs (my daughter and grand-kids had their own cabin), but as usual, the A/C, although great in public areas, was inadequate to our needs. That being said, carnival was able to provide us with an air cooler (using ice & water) that brought the room temperature to where we like it, albeit at the cost of high humidity. As always, the entertainment on Carnival was great. Not only were the Las Vegas style shows marvelous, the Juggler & Comedian on board were well worth the price of admission. We also greatly enjoy the Art Auctions presented by Park West on sea days. I cannot speak to the excursions as we do not usually take any and, for that matter, did not even disembark at Ocho Rios. We are shoppers, not adventurers, and did not find the shopping in Grand Cayman to be to our liking. The kids, however, climbed Dunns River Falls twice and loved it. Bottom line, we found another Carnival Cruise to be very much to our liking and look forward to the next time we cruise.
