Took this Cruise with a group of friends. We had a blast! Evening though the weather wasn't the best we still had a great time on the boat and off the boat. Our favorite stop was in San Francisco where we took a City and Muir Woods tour with a fun tour company called Dylan's Tours. They took us all over the city and also showed us the redwood forest which I I've never seen before. We also took other tours in other city's which were fun but not as accommodating. We had a balcony, which was perfect for enjoying watching the Pacific Coast Coastline. There's a lot to do on the cruise but we spent most of the time enjoying views of the pacific and also sitting at the many bars inside the ship. I've been on many cruises and this was for sure one of the most enjoyable!!! Thank you Princess Cruises!!! PS. Great Food!!! Read Less

We have an Princess Alaskan cruise planned for 2017 & decided this would be a good way to try out Princess for the first time. We have travelled different cruise lines & had never done this itinerary. The first problem was when we were notified about the noro virus on the ship the week before. Then we were asked if we would like to sail another week because finding out on the ship was overbooked. We found out later this is common because they figure some people will cancel due to weather & others due to illness. This should have been a red flag but we were already vested in this with our son. Embarkation was delayed several times due to the virus cleaning but we were notified numerous times. Upon arriving at the port we were encouraged to go to the outlet mall because we would not be allowed in the terminal . We opted to stay even though we were repeatedly told that our boarding time was not until 4:30, which was about a 2 1/2 hour wait. Amazingly we were in the terminal within 30 min & on the boat shortly there after. Our cabin was ready as they said & buffet opened soon after getting on the boat. Our room steward Gerry was readily available & told us how to get in touch etc. He accommodated us with the third person in the cabin by pulling down the upper bunk. This didn't work out so well , so he brought in a roll away bed the next day. Make sure if you are having 3 adults in a cabin, you opt to have a suite since the cabin is smaller then the Carnival ships which we are accustomed to. We also had plumbing (toilet) problems starting on day 3 lasting for 5 days. Our room steward tried to correct it , the plumber to no avail. We finally tried to speak to hotel management after reporting to the front desk several times. They finally let us speak to customer relations & we did. They did compensate however we over heard staff stating this cabin B505 has had this problem before. Really! Would you book this cabin again? We had anytime dining due to when we booked. You have to call for a reservation everyday & sit on the phone for at least 10 min., unless you want to wait in a very long line for dinner. Our cruise consultant with Princess told us to speak to one of the maitre'ds and request a permanent dining time. It took 3 days but we did get a 5:30 sitting and a reserved table each night thereafter. Speaking of dinner, the food was warm but not hot wherever we dined. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed in the main dining room & we spent at least 1 1/2 hours dining. In fact one night we left early so we could make the show. We were disappointed to find that eggs benedict were not on the breakfast menu. Something we never get at home and one of the things we look forward to on a cruise. Not until day six did we discover that it is offered on the brunch/lunch menu. So the next morning we asked for eggs benedict for breakfast which were excellent. They don't even have chocolate milk. My wife had the soda package which is kind of a joke & costly. Included with this package is hot chocolate which was on the regular menu. Also you are to get smoothies with that package & all we found was basically slushy mix at the bar. The only diet beverage available is Diet Coke. Other sodas in a can are not included. m Milkshakes are included but you can only get those at the ice cream station(which there is only 1) We tried to order one at lunch in the dining room, & were told they can't do them & asked that we go to the ice cream station. The tendering was very disorganized in Cabo , having to wait in the theatre for 1 1/2 hours. However in mentioning this to customer relations she was proud of her staff in getting 3000 people off the boat in 2 hours We have been on a boat with 6000 people, who did a much better job. We enjoyed the itinerary but be prepared for cool weather both in & out of LA. All of our shore excursions worked out well & were all through Princess which we rarely do but it was a holiday week. The entertainment was ok but not the best. The best entertainment was the chef & maitre'd culinary presentation. They were funny!. The Voice of the Ocean show with cruise ship guests was really good. We will probably go on the Alaskan cruise but don't need to repeat this cruise & ship. On de-emebarkation, we met a couple who has been on a dozen Princess cruises and they commented this this was the worst cruise ever. They hoped it was anomaly and not a trend. These particular ships are very old & possibly need to be pulled out. Renovation hasn't worked well Read Less

The Island Princess is for us a large ship. While we are much happier and comfortable on a ship with no more than 1500 passengers, Island princess did have adequate space for quiet lounging or reading. The crowded areas were the dining areas and bars, especially at Happy Hours We have sailed the Panama Canal twice before so there were no surprises as to the canal passing or the ports. Our primary reason for choosing this particular cruise was to be with friends. To that end we were happy to be with them and Princess provided everything we needed to enjoy visiting with our friends. We found the wait staff in the dinning rooms exceptional as they were attentive, had a great sense of humor and went beyond expectations to please their customers, however, if you are a Whole Food Plant based dieter (Vegan) the menu is not very friendly. There are various choices on each menu for vegetarians but they often included Butter, Milk or Cream and or Cheese (Not the choice for vegans). Read Less

We chose this cruise as it would only mean a one flight to return home. The embarking of the ship was very poor. San Pedro did not have its act together. The ship itself was okay, though we were greeted with Christmas music. Gladly this ended until the cruise was nearly over. The décor of the ship seems to be a bit dated , though our cabin was comfortable. Dinning was good, we did have late fixed dinning and it did seem very understaffed. After a week we opted for the buffet at 9:30 pm and found a great mix of people. It was always filled. Food was good and a great mix, to go along with the many different nationalities on board. Loved the ramen bowls. We did not do any Princess tours, but chose local operators at the ports. We were told not to do this in Callo (Lima) . We did do our own thing, but it does help if one speaks Spanish. . Our friends who took a Princess tour to Santigo were robbed on their tour, so I can't say much for Princess tours. In all it was a good cruise for the price. Read Less

The Star Princess was find but nothing spectacular. The embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The cabin was ok but not enough seating area. Had to lay in bed to watch TV. Shower was very small. The food was okay but the offerings in the international cafe were pretty much the same during the 2 weeks. There were way too many art auctions and sales on jewelry/clothing. There weren't many activities. You had to pay for some of the exercise classes. Just too much nickle and diming passengers. I always felt like they were trying to get us to buy something. We did enjoy the presentations on the different islands by the naturalist, Mark White (?), and the other tour guide. The dining staff was the highlight of the trip. We had the same servers each evening and they were great and very helpful. We would like to thank Allan Soriano and Andrii Taranushcenko for their great service. One of the dining managers, Giovanni Comes was extremely helpful as well. They were our entertainment and it was great to get to know them. We looked forward to each meal. Read Less

I purchased air travel with Princess and had transfers to the pier on the day of the departure. Everything was very smooth. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of time we had to wait at the airport prior to going to the terminal. Add that on to the time we spent waiting once we got to the terminal and it totaled well over 8 hours of waiting. But once we got on the ship everything was very smooth. There was a hiccup with my internet that had been purchased before the cruise. I had to go to the internet cafe for them to fix the issue. But once it was fixed the internet was pretty typical for a cruise ship. The cabin was good and the steward was fantastic. We had early dining and the waiters that served our table were good for the cruise. We never really created a bond with them. But the food was great and they went out of their way to serve us. So not really any complaints. The entertainment on this ship was top notch and we went to almost every show. The ship itself was fantastic. Never had a problem finding a seat on the Lido deck when we ate there. We loved sea days on this cruise and the ship was very comfortable. You could be where all the action was but you could also be in a quiet place if you just wanted to relax or read a book. The activities were typical for a cruise. The interaction I had with guest services wasn't very frequent but they seemed to just be doing their job. I sensed that they thought they were doing me a favor to take care of my needs. But I wrote that off as just not being adequately trained to make sure their guests felt special. The stops we had on this cruise were great. I booked all of my excursions through the cruise ship on this cruise. (Something I don't always do.) They were very good, fun, and informative. The real issue I had with this cruise was the flight home. I had booked this cruise about a year in advance and booked the travel as soon as I could. I went through the motions of getting seats together so that my wife and I could sit together on the way home. But when our tickets were delivered to our stateroom I noticed that all the tickets were middle seats and not even close together. They were all about 10 rows apart. I tried to get them together when I got to the airport. I was able to sit together on the first leg. The seats were the last row on the ship. The other leg we couldn't get anything changed and had to sit in the middle seat. That's not very cool for tickets we had purchased about nine months before the cruise. I talked to the airline about this and they indicated that the seats weren't even reserved until two days before the cruise. Princess really fell down in this instance. Overall, the cruise was great. I will cruise with Princess again. In fact I have booked a 22 day cruise for March of 2018 with Princess. Read Less

I have to walk with a walker, The people that helped me with the wheelchair took very good care of me . The only thing that went wrong is getting on the ship. I got out of the bus and the wheelchair and was taken inside, I picked up my papers and my cruise card and was wheeled to the waiting area. I had a priority boarding pass. the man from Princess looked at it did did not tell the lady with him that I had it. After a hour siting in the waiting area and seeing the gold and the first time people going on , we asked the man why we were still there, we were Platinum member and had a Priority pass. he told us he did not see it and it was over a hour and a half before we were taken to our cabin. Once we were on the ship every thing was great. we went on several excursions , they made sure I had a front seat on the bus because I could not walk down the aisle. I had a handicap cabin and it was wonderful, The food and the service was great. We paid the money for our bags to be taken to the plane and sent to Denver, I would pay for this service any time I could use it, It worked out very well . Also we had a cabin that had the tow lines by it so the gave us a pass to go to the Sanctuary and we have wonderful service there. Read Less

My husband always wanted to go to the South Seas, but I was reluctant to be on such a long trip. However, I enjoyed it all very much, even the 14 days at sea. The embarkation and disembarkation were the smoothest of the eight cruises we've taken. Princess really takes care of you, and the crew were all friendly and at ease. We took Princess excursions on each island except Honolulu and Maui where we had been before. The native guides were interesting and the buses ranged from quaint to modern. We were taken to mountains, sea coasts, villages, native markets, historic buildings, WWII sites etc. Besides Kauai, and Hilo, we toured Bora Bora, Moorea, Pago Pago, and Tahiti. We each enjoyed the lectures given on sea days. Besides information about the ports, we heard about espionage in the Cold War, History of WW II, even pictures of Route 66 with music of its eras. We attended the show each night, and I would have liked singing and dancing shows, but enjoyed the comedians. The musicians who played throughout the ship were great. Because of seas, the exercise room on a top deck was rocky. Read Less

public bathrooms were messy, expect to get your own coffee, tea, water in buffet, long lines for anytime dining on certain nights, very disorganized and very little to do. Our table talked about how bad it was, and then someone said they are owned by Carnival, enough said. BTW even the casino was bad, the tournaments were a joke. The black jack tournament was $20.00 to enter and you had to have a certain score to win. I made it to the final table and received a t-shirt. That was not the problem. The problem is they took in at least 2000.00 dollars and only paid out 500.00 to the winner no second place. I have been on over 20 cruises and this by far was the worse. A person at our table one night said he volunteered to give a talk on NASA after noticing their was nothing much to do. The only night that had good entertainment was when Steve Moris was on stage. The employees seemed not to care and you know that comes from the stop down. I thought I was the only one that felt that this cruise was a waste of money. I soon found out it was on everyone's mind. I met a woman who was on a cruise for the first time. She was appalled at the service and Princess and she will never go on another cruise. Too bad her first experience was on Princess. Read Less

DW and I just got off the Golden Princess after a short three-day getaway cruise. This was our 15th cruise overall and eighth in a row on Princess. The main reason we went on this cruise was to celebrate DW’s sister’s hubby’s recent retirement. Embarkation was relatively smooth. We arrived around 1430 hours and were on the ship in about 20 minutes after walking into the terminal. We did have to park at an overflow lot because the lots around the terminal were all full. I was told there were 3 ships that sailed before us which filled up all the lots. For this cruise, we had what is listed as a Vista Suite (C751). I think they use to be called the “Premium Suites.” BIL & SIL had the adjoining PH suite (C749). Here is the thing that confuses me. The PH’s pictures show the balcony as being smaller with the cabin being bigger. What we saw was the exact opposite. Our balcony was noticeably narrower that C749 but our cabin seemed noticeably larger. Our cabin attendant (sorry but I cannot remember his name) started out kind of strange but he, overall, was very good. All other crew members always had a smile on their faces and were more than willing to help when needed. The Golden overall seems to be holding up rather well for being a 14 year old ship. We sailed on her to Hawaii in 2011 so we were well acquainted with her layout. All public areas seemed in a good state of repair. I was told the ship is going in for a two-week dry dock after the 10-day cruise that started today. I did see some wear and tear and rust but the Golden is in the water 24/7 365 days a year. Since this was a short three-day cruise I did not get to experience all areas of the ship. As far as the subjective area of food, we ate in room from the MDR the first night. The next two nights, we did ATD in the Bernini dining room. In my humble opinion, Princess does an absolutely terrible job running ATD. The first night we waited about forty-five minutes when we requested a table for six at 1930 hours. While waiting for a table, I noted a number of empty tables. I asked the headwaiter about this. He told me only a maximum of 20% of available tables are allowed to be held for reservations. He also told me the reservations are only available first come first serve on a daily basis. He also assured me that standing reservations for an entire cruise was not allowed on any Princess ship. After reading to the contrary on CC, I decided that it wasn’t worth arguing about. The food overall in the Bernini, along with food in all areas, was very good to excellent. Bar service was acceptable in all areas with the exception of the Casino bar. Service there was abysmal. Since the cruise was a short three-day done during spring break, there were a ton of kids onboard. There were some instances where the kids got out of line but I thought ship’s personnel handled it well. All in all it was an enjoyable short cruise. Just thing to get me motivated for our CB cruise in September. Read Less
