And I have taken several; why you wonder:

#1 - I caught an intestinal illness on board, couldn't eat hardly eat anything but chicken soup and a little fruit for the last seven days of the cruise; it was an eleven night cruise.  Couldn't determine if it was something I ate or if it was some inconsiderate passenger on board spreading disease; doesn't matter I caught it  on board.  I do want to commend the medical staff they were excellent and took very good care of me.

#2- The ship didn't stop at any of the advertised ports. I wanted to see the Azores (never have) and go to Bermuda( had family party plans). Well all blown to smithereens; thank you very much. Viking would be shocked to know; we actually met repeat Viking Cruise passengers that had hedged their bets that the Mid Atlantic Crossing wouldn't make the port stops. They told us it was to late in the season for the ship to attempt such a journey. They won their bet, so Viking should watch who they give cruise points too.  I paid thousands of dollars for a constant rough ride from Europe to Miami; I would have rather flown.

#3-  My opinion is that Viking should stick to the rivers, rivers are calm, high seas are not. The ship was very beautiful, well -appointed and luxurious; but not very safe on a rough high seas. They have no railage, nothing to hold on to in common areas. I have never been on a ship that didn't have an appropriate amount of railage. What were we suppose to hold on to "ART WORK" well, it doesn't work very well.  The ship was rocking and so were the passengers. Several people fell; "oh well at least they landed on something beautiful."

So I got off of my Luxury Viking Cruise with a sea legs, cruise cough, very upset intestinal status and the feeling of just being completely ripped off; “so Thank You Very Much Viking Sea Cruises”. Viking did try to pay me off to shut up. I turned them down because people need to know; money is not everything.

WORST CRUISE EVER "THE VIKING LADY LIED"

I had never done an Atlantic crossing, and the itinerary looked great. And - it was on Viking, so I felt it would be the best experience.  For the most part, it was really interesting and met/exceeded my expectations. Only a few drawbacks for me: 1. Really bad weather and rough seas the first 4 days, obviously NOT Viking's fault, but I did not enjoy that much time being very seasick. Thank goodness meclizine was available free of charge. 2. Due to the weather, we stopped in Maderia rather than the Azores, no big deal except for the timing. We stopped there after one day of sailing, rather than 2 to the Azores. Then we sailed all the way to Miami with no other stop. That was a VERY long stretch at sea, and despite interesting speakers & presentations, it got boring. We seemed to have had ample to make a more southern Caribbean port call on the way to Miami, as we spent most of 2 days cruising in north-south runs to kill time. It would have felt better if the Captain had told us that we were unable to stop anywhere else due to contract issues, or whatever. Many people on the ship were unhappy about this situation. Otherwise - it was our usual fabulous time with Viking - great cabin, absolutely outstanding service, good food & wines. While I don't feel the need to do another Atlantic crossing, I certainly will continue to be a very loyal Viking fan, and have already booked my next cruise!

First Atlantic Crossing!

One of the reasons we chose this particular cruise was because of the stop in Bermuda.  Well, on embarkation, we found out we couldn’t go to The Azores because of weather.  We went south to Madeira instead.  But, since we went south and then across the Atlantic from that point, we were too far south to go to Bermuda.  We had hoped to see Bermuda to figure out where we wanted to go back and stay.  Very disappointing.  The wait staff knew much earlier than we did that we were not going.

The Restaurant was very lovely.  I don’t remember being asked ‘to share’ a table on the Sun.  We were asked every night on this cruise if we’d share.  The World Cafe was the same quality as the Sun.  We enjoyed the ability to have wine or beer with our meals.  Manfredis didn’t seem as good as on the Sun.  And, the only way we could get a table was to share!

We loved room service and had coffee in the room every morning.  Predictable and good.

Many relaxing sea days

We embarked from Lisbon on Dec.16th at 11:00 PM. On Dec.17th at 12:00PM the Captain made announcement we are unable to sail to the Azores due to stormy seas and for our passengers safety. We are sailing to Mederia and will be there tomorrow. The ship was rolling sideways all day long and into the night. I have been on 60+ cruises and I know when the stabilizers are not on, the ship doesn't roll side to side, up and down yes. Many passengers where sea sick and one female passenger was injured due to a fall. Why are the passengers safety at risk? Who is responsible? The Captain or Viking or both. On Dec. 19th the Captain states we are not sailing to Bermuda due to rough seas. Our friends on board the ship where supposed to meet relatives in Bermuda. They called their relatives and gave them the bad news. They stated the water around Bermuda was like a lake. Someone is not telling the truth. Why was our cruise ship traveling at 16 knots when cruising speed is 20 knots? The stabilizers were activated the day we left Mederia causing a drag on the ship and consuming more fuel. Viking made a decision to cancel Bermuda due to fuel consumption and to conserve fuel by traveling 16 knots or didn't have enough time for Bermuda and get back in time to Miami.

The service was excellent. The food at breakfast and lunch was excellent. The food at diner was average. The Chef's Table should be closed, the food was terrible. The ship itself was beautiful and tastefully furnished with a lot of space to relax.

Rocking Viking Sky

As a solo traveller and first time cruiser, I did a lot of research before I chose this cruise. I was impressed that Viking included so much and that it had a good reputation for its crew, destinations,  and for its food.  The crew were all wonderful especially as I was very sea sick for the first two days. Unlike other times when I have been seasick this took me days to recover.  Whether it was the injections I was given I do not know. 

So by day 5 I was looking forward to having some good food as well as checking out more of the ship. I was not fully recovered to see Madeira which was the first port of call.  Madeira having been substituted for the Azores because of the weather.

Well the food was a real disappointment.  Inconsistent quality and cooking was a real letdown.  Frozen seafood is just about tasteless when thawed.  And my one night out at Manfredi's was spoiled by a racist sexist Trump supporter. Plus the food was lukewarm.  I was at a shared table so had no idea that this awful pig of a man would be at my table.  His wife and the two other people at the table were lovely but he was the sort of man that if you said something he would take it out on his wife later.

So days 5, 6, 7, 8 were redeemed by being able to sit out on my balcony and be looked after by my cabin crew. 

By day 9 I had a very debilitating chest infection that had me coughing day and night.  I have been home over two weeks and it has still not cleared up.  One of the reasons I chose this cruise was because of stopping in Bermuda but weather intervened and no alternative port was offered so 9 days at sea.  I am wondering where the chest infection came from as I was keeping pretty much to my cabin.

I found the entertainment to be bland, not that much better than elevator music.  And I didn't do any of the activities because I had been sick for the first 4 days.  I did check out the spa but couldn't breathe down there, so no spa for me.

The best part of the cruise was my cabin crew and that the cabin was so well designed. I could not recommend this cruise for it food or its entertainment.

Not worth the money

This was a transatlantic christmas cruise from lisbon to miami,florida.  we chose it for the fact it was over christmas and we wanted to experience being at sea over the christmas season.

It was all we expected and more.  beautiful ship, viking sky.  we spent two days in lisbon which was beautiful.  the city was all decked out for this special time of the year.

From the greeting at the airport and transfers to the hotel tivoli, which was also outstanding, to embarkation, everything was professionally handled.

Our cabin was beautiful and very comfortable.  lots of storage space.

Breakfast and lunch at the world cafe was more than we expected with wonderful friendly service and choice of food.  dinners in the restaurant were not the quality of the other venues.  most dinners were warm, never hot, and choices were somewhat odd for our tastes.

Entertainment good with a variety of choices.

The first port was passed due to weather conditions,  like the azores, bermuda was also missed.  we did make funchal, which was lovely with one of the best tours in our many years of cruising.

Viking is definately on our list for future cruising.

FIRST VIKING CRUISE EXPERIENCE

My husband and I chose this cruise because it was an affordable way to check out Viking, and we hadn't taken a holiday cruise previously. We are experienced cruisers but not with Viking. We picked up the cruise partway through in Lisbon, so we had no time to explore before embarkation. The first 48 hours were rough. There were maintenance problems with our cabin (a blocked drain caused disgusting material to come into the shower) and the table on our verandah was unusable because it rocked back and forth. We also waited over an hour for our food at lunch in the restaurant on the first full day. Once the maintenance issues were fixed, things improved. The food was amazing; we ate most of our meals in the cafe and the service there was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the ship's entertainers and musical productions. We went to movies and many ship lecturers' presentations. There was always something interesting to do if we wanted, and plenty of places to sit quietly and read a book if we wanted down time. The seas were very rough and due to rain we were unable to visit the scheduled ports of The Azores and Hamilton, Bermuda, so that was disappointing, but safety comes first. A stop in Madeira, Funchal was substituted, and the included excursion there was an excellent overview of the island. I found the cabin to be cramped compared to the other cruise line we have sailed most often. Storage was especially poor and there were several ways it could have been improved if the cabin had been designed better. We were especially impressed with the friendliness and accessibility of the ship's officers. We had never been on a ship where the captain made a point of stopping to talk with folks in the public areas; the cruise directors, hotel manager, and others did the same thing. While I would not recommend a Trans-Atlantic cruise in December, I highly recommend Viking and the Viking Sky!! It was a wonderful vacation. We now have two more Viking cruises booked for 2020 and 2021.

Rough sailing but very good cruise

Always wanted to cross the ocean and Lisbon was a bonus for us.  Spent five days there before the crossing.  Thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine in all venues.  Such great food and superb service.  Like that it is all inclusive including the spa which is lovely and relaxing. Only have rave revues for this beautiful ship, crew and amenities.  

The entertainment was great each night and often during the day.  I like that it is so clean and I don't have to block my ears with dirty humor or words. The lectures during the day were interesting.  We really liked the four talks by the man who rowed the Atlantic, and Pacific.  Amazing and perfect as we crossed an ocean. 

I liked using the spa, hot tub, sauna and snow room as well as big pool which was a wave pool one day as we rolled with the sea.  

The two stops were great, seeing the Azores and Bermuda which we had never visited.  Interesting tour in the Azores. included.

A surprise which we enjoyed was the ability to watch tv In Our room and see the series of Downtin Abbey.  

You see, we liked the whole experience and the Viking Sun is a lovely new ship.
