After a bit of a walk on the pier into town there is a large area for shopping which also has areas for eating and a bar. If you can see that there will be more than one cruise ship on the island that day I would suggest going in early as there were three ships docked by the time we finished shopping and we’re headed back. The shopping area is very crowded with that many ships at one time. ...

If you walk to the far end of the cruise ship shopping mall, you can catch a shuttle to the local beach ($4). Purchase something to eat or drink in order to use the lounge chairs in front of a restaurant. A lot of shops and beach vendors selling their wares but pretty relaxing and gorgeous setting. ...

After disembarking the ship we cut through the touristy shops and bars and headed for the wagon that took us into the town of Mahahual.
