We took the post Thanksgiving W Caribbean cruise because as a Latitudes member, I was familiar with the itinerary and especially because it included Roatan. Since many other reviewers have covered the ship, the staff, Colin (the cruise director), and free-style cruising I'll stick to just some of the ports. If you haven't been to Roatan or Belize or even post-hurricane Grand Cayman, you should know that people book this cruise not for port shopping(although Cozumel has good buys if you search) and Grand Cayman has Tortuga rum cakes, but for the diving and snorkeling excursions.

So on to the shore excursions: (1) Roatan- Coxen Hole (the port) is truly a "hole", makes you thankful for all you have but it's not what you wanted to see on vacation. We've snorkeled dozens of off shore and shore reefs in the Caribbean and even a fabulous drift snorkel in Tahiti, but nothing compared to the pristine reef on NCL's "Tabyana Beach Party & snorkel tour" at $59. You check out your gear on the ship and return it there after the tour. The school bus ride takes about 35 minutes through beautiful scenery (once out of town). This tour is also great for beginners since you walk in off a sandy beach. There's plenty of quality beach chairs, shade under the palms, a great barbecue lunch with plenty of table space, and beer at only $1.50 a bottle! Water depth is 15-20 feet with some coral formations reaching up to nearly the surface and thousands of fish, and the reef is huge.

(2) Cozumel- We've done the catamaran reef and beach tour before, so we skipped it in favor of a power boat to the reef then a tour up the western coast to an offshore island to spend a couple hours on a private island with another good either covered or open air barbecue and a chance for swimming. Then it's the booze cruise with shots of tequila, music, and dancing on the trip back over some beautiful coral reefs back to the ship. The snorkeling was not the greatest since it was near the cruise ships but the trip up the coast over the reefs and the party after were terrific again for only about $50-$60 per person and only about 30 people on the large partly covered powerboat. And you get back in time for some shopping in town as well.
