Msc splendida is a ship to wonder at.All public areas are well furnished and decorated to very high standards.Plenty of activities to keep you occupied but a lot of the activities are geared towards the mainly Italian passengers not surprising on a Italian ship.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable plenty of wardrobe space and drawers, safe is free of charge and easy to use.rooms are kept very clean and tidy,eg beds are turned down every evening and towels replaced twice a day.Don't expect though to see any towel sculpture's a bit disappointing.
Food in the Villa Vera restaurant was a la carte we were served by a lovely waiter full of smiles and nothing was touch much trouble for him.Other meals we went to the bora bora self service area.Breakfast and lunch times could get very busy, loads of tables but did take time to find seats.the faire here was of the pizza, burger and chips style but with large areas for salads pasta and of lunchtimes curries etc. also plenty of choice for fruit and sweets for diabetics like me you can ask for the sugar free desserts.Unfortunately the food could have been kept a little warmer.
Now for a few downs, all drinks shopping etc has a 15% service charge to be added to your bill.Drinks are expensive typically 5.50 euros for a beer and 9.9euros for a bacardi and coke. There is also a charge of 7euro's per person a day apparently for crew's tips?this works out approx 147,000 euro's per week if everyone pays.We asked for the charge to be removed from our bill and we would tip people who served us,this was done after a bit of a showdown with customer services who were fairly rude too me and could do a course for customer care management.
Trips ashore were expensive.top tip for getting to Rome when ship docks catch the free bus to dock entrance.A few minutes walk keeping shops to your left and sea-front to right and you arrive at the train station.Trains to Rome a frequent and costs 9 euro,s for adult return, station staff very knowledgeable and helpful and speak very good English.Don't be afraid all tannoy announcements are made in Italian and English.we were also given a timetable for return trains with arrival times into civitavecchia so you won't miss the all aboard time
