Luxury and style on the Eclipse

Sail Date: November 2011
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

The Celebrity Eclipse was spectacular! This was the first cruise we had taken, and we had read a number of reviews here on cruisecritic and decided that celebrity was the way to go.

Embarkation was supersmooth, although we elected to get there early in the day, approx 11:30 AM, even though the staterooms were not ready until about 1 PM. It gave us the opportunity to explore the ship, albeit with our carryons in tow. The staff was very courteous, with everyone welcoming us aboard. Most of the ship was open to us to explore, and it was nice and relaxed.

Once muster was completed and we were underway, we had a nice time the first couple of days, as our first port of call was not until the third day. The shows in the eclipse theatre were spectacular, Vegas quality events with great sound, dancing and cirque trained performers. The Rip Tides, and acapella group, were great, as was Karen Grainger, a female vocal impressionist.

The food was spectacular. We More dined at the Tuscan Steakhouse once, which was great. The view from that restaurant is unbeatable, as it is right at the aft, and provides a great trailing view of the ocean. We also tried the Bistro on five, which was a nice crepe restaurant. The Cafe al Bacio, also on five, had great specialty coffees and snacks. As we had the non alcoholic beverage package, the coffee place was a nice place for us to sit and relax either before dinner, or after breakfast, and plan our day.

The pools, we spent our time in the solarium, as it was the "no kids" indoor pool. The outdoor pools were more busy, but there was still space around all the pools for sitting and relaxing. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Eclipse Concierge Class Panorama Deck (9) 1652

Room 1652, Penthouse deck. Concierge class. We had great placement, great balcony. Space was ok, but the only issue was we were right across from the crew access. We could hear the door opening and closing from time to time, but other than that it was great.

Port and Shore Excursions

The only issues we had with this port were not the port's problem, more issues stemming from weather and arrival time. We were scheduled to arrive at 3 pm local time, giving us the opportunity to see some of the city, including the fort, before closing and sundown. However, due to some rougher seas, and non agreeable winds, we were delayed by almost two hours, and did not get off the ship until closer to 5 PM. the fort closed at 5, so we were unable to see that, and it was dark within about 90 minutes after we disembarked. Also, there were a couple of rain torrents. That being said, it was a nice time to stroll about the old city, and enjoy the sights. We did not have an excursion booked, luckily, as we most likely would have been quite rushed to get it completed.

St Maarten was a wonderful port. The weather was cooperative, and we had a full day from 8 am and 5 pm. We had opted for the tiki hut snorkel park, which was a great idea. The water taxi took us from the pier right to the tiki hut, and we had a great day there. The grouper sandwich and the guava colada was yummy! We stayed there until after lunch, and after taking a water taxi back to the ship to change, we were still able to walk around and enjoy the city.
