Sail Date: Nov 2011

Our November 5 sailing on the Summit was our second on this ship, fourth with Celebrity and seventh cruise overall. The cruise embarked on a Saturday and covered a Southern Caribbean itinerary (St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada and St. Thomas). There was only one at-sea day.

We arrived in San Juan on Thursday at mid-day and stayed at the Doubletree in the Condado area. We booked our pre-cruise arrangements on our own. The prices for pre-cruise packages offered by Celebrity were not competitive. While in San Juan we did the Flavors of San Juan dinner tour and a tour of the El Yunque rainforest. We also had ample time to do sightseeing in San Juan. See Trip Advisor for reviews of the hotel, dinner tour and a great restaurant, The Latin Roots.

We took taxis often while in San Juan. They are easy to find, generally clean and the drivers are friendly and helpful. The highest fare was from the pier to the airport, about $24 including three pieces of luggage. Fares to get from our hotel to Old San Juan were in the $12-15 range.
