Westerdam Alaska Cruise

Sail Date: August 2011
Destination: Alaska
Embarkation: Seattle

We had a wonderful time on the Westerdam.

Everything from the embarkation process right through to the disembarkation process went smoothly.

Our cabin was lovely, very clean and spacious. The cabin attendants were very good and eager to please.

The food was great, we dined mainly in the dining room and had early fixed seating. We also had room service each morning with coffee and pastries, such a lovely treat.

We went to the evening shows, and definitely Andrew Morelli (comedian ) and Joel Mason (Elton John tribute) were the highlights for us. Both very entertaining, talented , and funny young men. The cruise director, Jason, did a fantastic job of hosting events and being very friendly and available to passengers.

one definite highlight for us was the ship's "Behind the Scenes" tour. I ha read many varying opinions on this tour, and as a captain's daughter, I could not pass up the chance to tour the ship. It was worth every penny ($150 More per person) and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the 3 hour tour.We went into the engine control room, back in the galley, the laundry facilities, backstage and dressing rooms of the dancers, the recycle/refuse areas, food storage, the bridge, etc.

Overall it was a wonderful cruise. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

We booked a private whale watching tour through Harv and Marv's. We had an amazing time. We were 3 hours on the boat that only takes 6 passengers. We saw humpback whales, sea lions, and many orca whales. Captain Tony was so interesting and a lot of fun. They also took us to Mendenhall Glacier on the way back to the ship.

Since we had done a lot of the touristy things on a previous visit, we opted to explore the town on our own. We walked for hours and had a great time poking about little shops off the beaten path. We did go to Creek Street and went inside Dolly's House, which used to be a brothel and is now a museum.

We loved Sitka and spent about 5 hours walking around on our own. It is a really fun place to explore. We made a point of visiting the Raptor centre where they rehabilitate birds of prey, mainly eagles.

We absolutely love visiting Victoria, and have been there many many times. We had friends pick us up and whisk us off to Butchart Gardens. We were able to make it there while it was still light for a bit, and then enjoyed all the lights of the gardens at night.
