We have been away from cruising for the past 5 years as I was starting a business with our son and then endured 3 major surgeries. So we have ended the business, recovered as well as possbile from surgeries and now it's time to get back cruising. I chose the Legend for several reasons. It is a smaller ship that gets great reviews, was coming out of drydock and received the new Serenity Area and had no large screen on the Lido. With the new area, I didn't anticipate spending much time near a large screen but just in case I didn't need all the extra noise. This also was our first time leaving out of Tampa.Embarking was smooth. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Rocky Point the night before after driving 1100 miles. The Hampton Inn has the greatest beds I've ever been in a coma on. We woke up fresh as daisies, had a great free breakfast and caught the shuttle over. We filled out the cough report, got Zone 8 and relaxed maybe a half hour and then things rolled easily. We walked past the first photo op and went up to the Lido for some lunch. We had some burgers and chicken tenders with some DODs. Around 130 went to check on room and we were able to get in and settled. We got our luggage before Muster. this was a relax cruise so we hung out in the room and our balcony. Around 6 we went up on deck 10 and waited to sail under the bridge. That was exciting and took plenty of pictures. We then went down to the MDR since we were trying the ATD this time. I don't think we will ever go back to assigned time because ATD is so convenient and we never waited. All week, we walked up, they knew us and took us to the same table (399) all week. Our wait staff was efficient and friendly. They had some problems with my wife's order the first night (never showed up) but we got 2 of what I ordered. And then on Wednesday they were out of sync again. I asked what was up and they said they were trying to get ready for the first performance of Low Low. I'd personally rather have a hot dinner but the performance was entertaining. While on the subject, we never had a hot meal for dinner. It always was warm at best. After requesting different bread one night and that never showing up, we figured eat warm dinner and eat on the Lido if hungry later. The meal selection was okay, nothing that really stands out. The ribs are about what I make at home (retired restaurant owner and son is a chef), prime rib would have been great hot and lobster was getting cold and tough. The wife liked some of her fish entrees but they were also cold. I expected some great desserts but they really disappointed. Choc Melting Cake was pure sugar and the only one I really liked was the Apple Pie. My wife enjoyed the Bitter Blanc. I had expresso nightly with dessert. How can expresso only be luke warm? Our room was okay. It had a balcony. Our last cruise we had an extended balcony Aft and that room seemed larger with a larger balcony for less money. But that one had soot and cig butts on it every morning. this time our balcony was perfect. We went to the adult comedian shows, the juggler and the ventriloquist show. All were very funny. We opted not to go to the productions after going to the Welcome Aboard show. Wee Jimmy didn't do it for us. His assistance Weezie is in the wrong profession. CDs and ACDs should be high energy. The singers and dancers appeared to be of High School level so we didn't waste our time. We walked around checking out the other entertainers and Carnival needs to do some housecleaning. No entertainment. Why pay for vacation and you do Karaoke? Most folks don't have honest friends that tell them they can't sing must be.SO to sum it up, the ship is clean, never seemed crowded, with fast moving food lines. They had good selections on the Lido for lunch. Serenity was great after 5pm when all the chair hogs had soemthing else to do.7am and they are all reserved. Another spot to fix. I really wanted to go do some gambling this trip but I left my ventilator home. Seriously, if you value your life avoid the Sacred Casino. I tried the non smoking section but gave up. I am not a big gambler anyways so they didn't miss me. It would be nice if they put a popular machine in your cabin. So we were on our balcony each day for sailaway and that was great. And after we sailed away, everyone slammed their doors and went back up topside or dinner.Grand Cayman: Stingray City and Snorkeling with Captain Marvin5 ships in port that day so the rays were very well fed and didn't feel like being social. Boat Captain chased one down, everyone stood in line to get all the pictures they could buy and then back in the boat. Snorkeling was excellent but not long enough.Cozumel: Tulum through CarnivalHighlight of the cruise. A full day in 87 degrees and 86% humidity. One of my surgeries was a failed hip relacement and it was a struggle with all the walking but it was fun. With pain meds, lots of water and a beautiful day, we thoroughly enjoyed the ruins. The only down side was running the gaunlet of cigar selling kids at the souvenir shops. We will go back and do this one again.Belize: Hung around the PortWe did some shopping and then had a Belikin while listening to some music. We had nothing planned for this day because of the full day at Tulum and we didn't know if my hip would be functional. Plus we didn't know if we would go to Belize or Costa Maya. Our roll call asked John H on his Facebook page 3 times but never got a response so we relaxed instead. Took a tender back early and relaxed in the Serenity Area. I guess the tender issue is resolved.Roatan: Cab for the dayWe walked up the Hill of Pain and talked with the young guy at the shack. He hooked us up with a friend for the day. Walto took us wherever we wanted. We told him what we wanted to do and see and left the driving to him. We didn't go the the West End because Walto knew of some better spots and cheaper pricing. We went to a private club for snorkeling and lunch, then some shopping and then we wanted to go to the Castle for the shell carvings. My wife supported the economy well that day and Walto and he gave us a personal tour at the end. There are some pretty tough living conditions. Then he brought us back to the port(up and over the Hill or Torture) and we were back for late lunch. So the ship was like I had read and very clean. The room was fine with a great balcony. We were there to relax with each other and everything worked perfect. Getting off the ship took a little while because they were looking for 6 rooms of non residents that had not checked in. If they were on time, we would have been off the boat by 9am. So we got off, a porter took all of our luggage (about 8 pieces) over to the parking garage where we caught the shuttle back to Hampton Inn. We loaded up the vehicle and hit the road. 1100 miles back home. Definitely a great vacation. Next year we might do the same one or if flights are cheaper, I'll look at the Southern Caribbean route. While I'm thinking about it, you can take your small children to the Adult Shows. They will make multiple announcements about age limits and say they will ask for ID. But even though you are clearly 12 and they question you, just have mommy stand up and everything will be peachy. Carnival enforces no rules so have fun.
